Not That Kind of Rate: Anastacia | Finished

This is a personal theory but we will now lose Anastacia's fave from It's A Man's World

The song she played live most from this album. She clearly loves it. My score doesn’t entirely reflect that though I have grown to love it more in time – also seeing her perform it multiple times clearly helped. Guns ‘N Roses did a stellar job with this track and I feel like Anastacia does a fantastic job vocally but damn the production is far from on par with the original, so I rather listen to that. Let's kick off the commentary with @berserkboi "A classic obviously but not one of those favourites in either form". @Maki says "I'm not a big fan of this song to begin with, so this cover is just fine." Finally @londonrain gave this song his highest score on the album [a 5,5]: "Suffers from the same issue as most of the album, but is rescued by the fact that the song is good and Anastacia manages to outdo both the GNR version and the Sheryl Crow version, so there's that, I guess."

~ Honestly, I didn't expect this one to reach the top 100, so there are no surprises that it barely made it, by a mere average score difference of 0.02 or so. Probably among the most uninspired covers on there - the production and instrumental sound so watered down.
It's not even in my top 5 from this album and therefore isn't a loss by any means.

What is keeping Best Of You and Dream On in this rate?!
Voters with taste, of course.
The remaining three songs from the album should hold on for quite some time.

I'm so pleased with how things are going so far. All in all:

Now I have to mentally prepare myself for losing high scores often.

Up next is a song who has been steadily climbing in the leaderboard. Mostly because I was the first voter and lowest scorer.

I stan @Lost Boy for ignoring this track in his singles rate. Well done! I hate Dima Bilan with so many fibres in my body. I am not delusional. The Ukraine has a lot of deserving wins in the Eurovision Song Contest. More than your average country and a very good track record for a county not participating for a long time. But when they brought their very best song: Shady Lady. Miss Any Lorak also turned her Sprock on at Dream of a Brighter Day. A PJ00 classic in my heart! Dima Bilan did not deserve this win that year. And then he managed to snatch Anastacia for a duet and not giving it’s all. Or maybe when we hear Dima on this track he actually is giving his best shot. I just do not know. I am to unbothered at this point. @Maki actually watched the music video "The music video is so painfully 2009/10 - from the fashion and visuals to the editing. The song is fine, but I'm a bit bored." @londonrain is no fan either "This is from 2010?! Dima was already a few years behind the curve at this point, then..." Highest scorer @livefrommelbs gets the final word despite disagreeing "I liked this. He has a great voice, and they sound really nice together."

Stan excellence instead:

A former rate winner: WHEW the talentry!

Perhaps the final loss of the day. Perhaps not. Only time will tell. In quick succesion Evolution suffers again here.

Well could it be more generic? Yeah, I feel like I could have written this track myself cause the depth is not here. Sugarcoated in a bit of a repetitive beat with weird electronic elements and you have a track that stands out on the album sonically for all the wrong reasons. Is this Evolution’s Sexy Single. Perhaps? I could easily do without and the fact it got ignored for every setlist from the Evolution Tour says Anastacia could be bothered. This feels like one of those songs that is making a lot of rounds among artists and then finally someone records it. Well, miss Newkirk. I would have liked a 12-track album just as much. But clearly it making top 100 and not being the first one tells there is some love for it. Starting with @Maki "I really like this one. It's so much fun. The quirky aspect definitely makes it stand out. The chorus is odd, but I like how it leans to the sprock sound." @berserkboi wasn't a fan though: "I do enjoy Pop Anastacia a fair bit, though her grit is probably overall best used in other styles?" Finally @londonrain is stanning her vocals here "The final high note on the word "boomerang" is low-key amazing for some reason. It just is."

If we HAD to lose two songs from Evolution, it should have been Not Coming Down and Before, not Why and Boomerang.

Having said that, Boomerang was my third-lowest score on the album, so I’m not that bothered. There’s just a LOT from the rest of the song list that deserved to go first.

I don't know...I found the Evolution album to be..........really boring. So having Boomerang to actually give it some energy was great. It was also one of only two 10s I gave on that album.

Safety - 6,5
~ Yes, @Sprockrooster, I did watch the music video of this, but that's due to the fact that I was listening to the optional songs (while rating) via YouTube and that one's the only few which happened to have a music video. I thought that the misandry was going to affect this one even more, but for an averagely decent song it may not be too obvious. And Sprocky being the sole lowest scorer of a song in this rate is a sight to see. I like "Believe", but I couldn't care less about Dima Bilan.

And I was certain that "My Everything" was going to be the next cut from "Evolution" oop.

Boomerang - 7,75
~ My first minor loss of the rate and I'm a bit surprised it's out so soon. It's actually in my top 5 highest scores from "Evolution". That unexpected twangy little bop that always puts a smile on my face. Very fun and rock-ish, too. Definitely didn't deserve to be outlasted by heaps of weaker songs.
And scream at the artwork basically being Anastacia portraying a... boomerang. That's so witty.

Also, "Boomerang" is the first original song from Anastacia to have received a 10 from someone. At least it has that.
It was also one of only two 10s I gave on that album.
I gave only one 10 to that album (and the second highest score is an 8.75)

All 4's, 5's and 6's out for me, my lowest scores. I wasn't sure how my opinions would reflect everyone else's, but so far it seems to be going well.
Looking at the leaderboard (and not the results), looks like you and I are the only two voters that haven't lost any scores above a 7 before the top 100.

Sweet Child o'Mine | 7 | I never really thought about how good this song is (the original) because I don't actively listen to Guns n Roses, but it's objectively an anthem of sorts. I was really into this cover alot but then it got all instrumental and lost the plot quickly. A real missed opportunity here, could've been like a 9 or higher.

Boomerang | 4.5 | Kind of irritating as it chugs along monotonously, I must say, we're cutting the correct Evolution tracks for sure and some of the other ones people are asking for instead are not the tea.

The Resurrection album takes his first hit. Despite the song being on brand this resurrection falls flat instead. It did receive 3 10's which is the highest so far ánd a 1 proving it is among the most divisive tracks. The leaderboard trajectory reflects that as well.

I have to say I like what I did with the artwork as this original promo picture for the self-titled era was re-used for the A4APP album. Having a re-used track on this album makes it fitting to use here. How does one perfect perfection? Well, you do not. But I adore this take on the original a lot. Like a lot. And yes I was a bit shady to include this as a separate track where for any other track in this rate I merged everything together despite different time frames. Separated often means both version will not do well cause people pick their favourites. Well, I would love to see Anastacia represented in a winner’s rate but how do you beat the original Left Outside Alone (as it has already won once)? Well everything helps I guess. Perhaps there are people out there who prefer part 2 over the original and they create a gap that an other song can fill? I wrote this before getting any votes so as I am typing this I have no clue if this worked, but you can’t blame a girl for trying. This track being re-envisioned for the Resurrection album also means this is the last time we see Glen Ballard on an Anastacia studio album. But who knows what the future brings?

A divisive track also means more commentary. Starting off with @bonnieetclyde "Just… no. Sounds like a bad karaoke version. There was no need for this." @berserkboi will not be having it either "Perfect 5 for being half as good as the original, removing all the grit and power of this song was not the Tea!" Then we have team we do actually like it starting with @londonrain "I like the changes she made to the melody in the chorus, making it a bit more than just another acoustic version." @livefrommelbs does a lot perhaps "Not a re-hash of her best songs being one of the standouts on this album." I might agree though. Closing with @Maki "When you have a classic like this, the original singer really can't ruin it. Obviously, the original is so much superior, but I really don't know why this rendition so hated. It's actually quite refreshing to listen to, in all of its session glory."

Today we lost only tracks from the post Pieces of a Dream era. Tomorrow we will touch 3 different era's from the pre-Pieces of a Dream era.
