Not That Kind of Rate: Anastacia | Finished

Also, a bop:

Anyways, it's nice to see my second lowest remaining score depart.

Secrets - 5,25
~ Yeah, this is definitely my least favourite song from "Freak of Nature", so I'm annoyed to see it outlast "Don'tcha Wanna", among a few other songs. It's just... too restrained and ends up being extremely MOR. I do hear the warmth juxtaposed with dark lyrics, but that doesn't prevent this song sounding utterly boring to me, I'm afraid. And being 5+ minutes long doesn't do it any justice, either. Nice to see commentary perfectly aligning, once again.

Though I must say I'm interested to hear that @MilesAngel has to say about his high score for this song.

Scream. The autocorrect on PJ clearly went all out Madonna. I have edited the post ddd.

Why do people hate Freak of Nature?! It's one of her strongest records y'all!
Yeah. I am surprised too. I thought we would be untouched for long and then suddenly start bleeding hart in the 50s40s.

Yo Trippin | 4.25

Don'tcha Wanna | 4

Oh what a trio of amazing early album eliminations. These are exactly the kind of songs I worried about when thinking about participating in this rate. I ended up not running into neatly as many as I feared I would. There is still a 'negative' score on her debut which will be much more unpopular with the score I gave.

Secrets | 6.5 | Commentary covered it, forgettable is forgettable.

Left Outside Alone, Part 2 | 8.5 | When the original song is as good as this one is, it will take a lot more than this to derail it completely for me.

Correct. It is definitely inpopular, but it is not going next. We go to Resurrection which has only lost a deluxe track and will lose one again. And despite the uptempo songs are scarce on that album we are losing one.

A great start to the deluxe part of the Resurrection album. It actually feels like a song that would have fitted on It’s A Man’s World sonically. Maybe that is the main reason it is out so soon. It is an original song though, but Jamie Hartman did a great job on producing this track as it sounds full of life. Anastacia is a crazy girl and she embraces it head on here. Her vocals are on fire and she can keep up with the heavy guitar. That middle-8 is simply lush. Sassy and brassy delivery that is music to my ears. Yeah, this deserved to be on the main album. Definitely a ballad could be tossed over, but then we would only have ballads for the deluxe part (excluding I-tunes/spotify bonustrack Underdog). So I can see why this was given that treatment. @berserkboi affectations are back "The vocal affectations + the disrupted flow make this more annoying than fun!" Also @livefrommelbs isn't exactly stanning: "That opening vocal really jars for me. The rest of the song isn't much better." @Maki sees this coming from Anastacia's prime years: "If you told me this is from 2000 or 2001, I would've definitely believed it. This is such a direct sonic link to her debut album, but with a sprock twist. So sassy and cool. Unfortunately, the song itself doesn't do too much to me, even though the delivery is excellent and commendable." @londonrain continues on @Maki's early career feel because of it's lyrical content "Sis, Diet Sprite hasn't existed since 2002." Scream. I never realised. Maybe this really was partly a leftover from the cutting room floor or she just wants us to feel nostalgic.

All of her first four album era's lose one track.

Another 10 tracks have passed so let me go to the second set of outtakes: Anastacia vault of tracks that are still entirely unreleased or simply not on streaming:

Yo' Trippin' - 7.7. This is a funk song I can get behind. The rhythm section is particularly good. I love the attitude that Anastacia brings and the backing vocals compliment her perfectly.

The Other Side of Crazy - 6.4. I'm not a big fan of the chorus, but some the lyrics in the verses are great, and I like the middle-eight.

I gave 'Miles Away' 9 in the Madonna rate. The best song on 'Hard Candy.'

Secrets - 10. I hadn't heard this before and it spoke to me on an innate level. From the age of 5 my home life was disrupted by domestic violence. Not many people knew and I kept the secret inside. My parents separated when I was 8, and it was for the best, but I still had feelings of guilt which the following lyrics express,
'As I grew much older, I wonder
Whatever I could have done
To fight all the madness.'

At 11 I began senior school and was bullied from the start. I kept this secret hidden from my family for most of the time I was there, as I didn't want to burden my parents, who were separately dealing with their own issues.
In the end I told them and it got better, although I was happy when I left.

There have been other secrets, and they have all come to light. But this song reminded me of my past secrets, and made me grateful that I don't need to keep them any longer.

That is really powerful! Sending you virtual hugs!

We start the day with the Anastacia era that is going to suffer it's third loss. A b-side though.

This one feels like rock song with a bit of a country twang. However the chorus is refreshingly infectious and easy on the ears. I do understand it became a b-side to Sick & Tired instead of an album track. Cause lyrically it does not fit at all on the album. It comes closest as a mash up between I Do and Sexy Single lyrically, but since Sexy Single is highly out of place this is not a compliment. Though it would have been better on the album than Sexy Single. It was however quite big in my personal airplay. Time however wasn’t too kind and it became just a more regular track I enjoy. @Maki is sort of the same page "One of the catchier songs I forget how goes before pressing play. The start-stop guitar reminds me a lot of Madonna's "Don't Tell Me". It's a very good song with a great and memorable chorus, but I can see (and hear) why they left it as a B-side. Doesn't have anything special about it." @londonrain has a question ""Don't be a bitch politician with a Krispy Kreme smile"... er, what?" Isn't a krispy kreme smile one you make just like saying an -O-. I have now learned it is a dougnut brand so that aligns in that sense. What does it have to do with bitch politician? I do not know why - do not hate me - but why is the first person I think of Monica Lewinsky now? This whole meaning of the song just changed on me ddd.

Maybe it was just a copy/paste holdover but this was a 9 for me, not a 10! Sorry to have to be a Twisted Girl about it!!

Freak of Nature loses another track. It did receive 3 10's make it kind of a divisive loss. This album is getting mistreated.

I Dreamed You is a strong piano ballad that is very reminiscent to the ones on Not That Kind. She sells it. Being on the same album as You’ll Never Be Alone which was a piano ballad in Europe too (acoustic guitar for US) I always felt like this was a bit in the shadow of that one. Looking at it’s own it clearly is a very strong track. Her vocals build up marvellously to a great climax. It didn’t get any live performances, but it was blessed on the greatest hits "top 40 by Anastacia" being one of the deep album cuts to be represented. And it deserved that shoutout. Especially with that mastering mix at the end of the track where in the final seconds the beat for the reprise from Overdue Goodbye starts. Something they did not fix for streaming sites. Poor dat.

Not entirely a fan is @Maki "An obligatory ballad to close the album. I used to think that this one is overwhelmingly boring, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it's very pleasant. There are glimpses of gorgeousness here - the production is so pretty and the chorus melody is quite beautiful. Unfortunately, as a whole it is forgettable." @londonrain however brings Blu Cantrell in this mix and needs to find a way "Why would I listen to this when Blu Cantrell's I'll Find A Way serves the same vibe ten times better?" I do not see it though. @berserkboi "This is giving me great 90s ballad realness - shocked she was thought of as too niche to be signed early on, considering how amazingly she kills this style." Final word @livefrommelbs who has some praise "Some of those falsetto notes? icanheargod.gif"

Surprised to see all these decent songs leaving one after another...

The Other Side of Crazy - 7
~ I thought I liked this one better. It ended up being my lowest score out of the bonus tracks from that album. It's still pretty good, but the melody doesn't please me, despite the apparent sassiness and rockier vibe (which Sprocky nicely tied to that cover album). The chorus and middle-8 still don't click with me. Also, I can hear the affectations that @berserkboi mentioned, for a change.
A bit surprised that an uptempo song left first, and now I'm expecting "Resurrection" to have a big ballad cull in the near future.

Twisted Girl - 6,75
~ I could never recall this song before this rate and I'm not sure why, since the chorus is definitely great and memorable. Must be the song title that's confusing me or the forgettable verses/middle-8. Anyways, it' a completely understandable B-side choice, even though it's better than two of the songs that made it to the album. The lyrics are sure unique and I still have no idea what they're exactly about. But, who cares, it remains a perfectly fine and pleasant song that's inessential among her discography.
Also, this reminds me of something P!nk's would record during "I'm Not Dead" era (and then discard it), especially the chorus gives me those vibes for some reason.

Being so consistently scored (nearly all of the scores ranging from 5 to 8), it's a reasonable and perfectly fine elimination at this point, but there are definitely some weaker songs still around (especially a few ballads).

@Lost Boy did you really think we lost "Sick and Tired" so soon?

My guesses for today's eliminations (since I forgot to post them yesterday) are "Same Old Story", "I Dreamed You", "The Saddest Part" and "I Belong to You". So now that "Twisted Girl" is out, I know I got at least one of them wrong.
Edit: Oh, okay, I guessed one at least.
