Not That Kind of Rate: Anastacia | Finished

The last two cut were from Resurrection. And we have one again making this album lose three in a row. A bonustrack now.

I just… why does she has a song with the same name when this has easily could have been called ‘living on the edge’, for all I care she named it YOLO to have a kii. But having two songs with the same name is confusing. And both got a niche treatment as this was a digital bonustrack from Resurrection and the original underdog a b-side to the 4th single from her debut era. The song is about living your life to the fullest but not in the spotlight. It actually is a good closer for the Resurrection album in that sense. @Maki gave this a 8 and says "Yet another mistreated bonus track. The sprock sound of this song is very recognizable. The verses are so cool, even though the middle-8 isn't as good as the rest, I bop along to the chorus each time. Definitely the superior "Underdog" in this rate." @londonrain however disagrees "The "underDAWG" takes me out. Why would you record a song with the same title as a previous song if the new song isn't even as good?" It is just all very confusing. @berserkboi keeps it simple "I actively enjoyed this one!"

I forgot something for Maybe Today - comparing it's average to the poprock rate and it's position among the songs that were in them from her.

Maybe Today
Average: 7,17 [12/13 from the songs who were in the poprock-rate]
Average in poprock-rate: 5,89 [12/13 from the songs who were in the poprock-rate]

Just like Sexy Single the average vastly improved which is no surprise for a discography rate. So far the order is the same. Funnily enough we lost the song there at #79 and here at #80. That rate however had only 83 songs compared to the 120 here.

Stay - 8.4. I found the message behind the song powerful. Even though the lyrics are slightly repetitive I don't mind in this case, because they're used as a mantra, to show strength and determination.

Underdog 2014 - 7.1. I underscored this. I wish I'd taken more notice of the lyrics. Reading them now they really speak to me, as I've always felt like a bit of an outsider, but have been my own person, even when looked down upon by others.

Yep, the mini "Resurrection" cull, which I expected/anticipated. Only if it contained the correct songs...

Underdog - 8
~ I was hoping that this would end up as the, er... 'underdog' in this rate and go further, but oh well. It was done a bit dirty and I think that the bonus track status is partially to blame. Easily better than all of the album tracks from the standard edition of "Resurrection" and it definitely didn't deserve the bonus track treatment, in my opinion. Again, a situation where I'm surprised the ballads from that album are outlasting the more up-tempo songs. Anyways, I enjoy this one a lot. Being one of the sprockiest songs of the album definitely does it justice and I love the way it the verses blend the funkier style of her early albums. The chorus has a lot of rock-ish power (that "Aaaayeyeye'm... the underdog" bit is so cool) and it pairs so well with the lyrics, so the song itself grows on me with each listen.

At least I'm glad we chose the correct superior "Underdog", but both songs with that title ended up a bit underrated in their own way.

Our final cut for the day is coming. Perhaps 5 tomorrow to catch up again. We'll see. It is now time to say goodbye to our second single in the rate. Our first song with 4 10's. Which one could it be?

Compared to the singlesrate that was hosted by @Lost Boy time dit not do any favours to this one cause it crashed to the second loss of all the songs who were in that rate as well. It now also lost out to Best Of You where it performed better than that one in that singles rate. A wrong in this rate. The only saving grace is that it did grow in average. Aerosmith’s Dream On is one of my fave all-time songs. The power that this song has is so extremely powerful. A build-up to a middle-8 that bares everything. Pain, rage and defeat. It has that signature screamadlib that Steven Tyler can pull off and leave me shook, but obviously for a pop girl with a strong set of pipes a total takeover of enjoyment. When she first performed during the winter Olympics in Torino and she did that adlib. Well wig. It would lead to an almost decade spanning stalking of her to have this song in her studio form. And we got it ánd it did not disappoint.

This deserved the full fledged single treatment that Best of You got even if it was for the fans only. It was also the sole reason I wanted to go the It’s A Man’s World Tour. So I was sad it was cancelled. Weirdly it made barely any setlists on Tours and none for the one I visited meaning I still have not heard it live from her. A deep sadness. But not as much as this song receiving a 1. Let's here from our rate villain @horrorrain "I just don't like this song, sorry. I'm impressed by Anastacia's ability to do the octave jump at the end, but this needs to go." Those vocals in the middle-8 get a deserved shoutout from @livefrommelbs too "As soon as this started I knew she would nail the bit towards the end where the vocals just go bananas. She did not disappoint. The rest was a bit lacklustre, though." @berserkboi is swept too "You can tell from Anastacia’s delivery this is a song she loves!" Also @Maki found stanning "I can definitely hear where the guitar riff of "Heavy on My Heart" stemmed from. This is grand. And those high notes... I could feel my hair folicules commiting suicide and jumping at that part."

*Heavy Rotation is holding up pretty well. It has relatively done the best from all the albums beating out selftitled with 77% compared to 75% there. Obviously Pieces of a Dream does relatively the best with 80%. The fact the album is holding up so well surprises me. Commercial sellout pays off in the end.

Our first tie of the rate at #73. And sadly one album loses two songs in that tie.

Now let's kill Best Of You.

Yikes, looks like this is the point when I start losing all of my high scores.
Also, yikes at the typos in my commentary.

Dream On - 9,25
~ Okay, it's been a while since we last saw a song from "It's a Man's World" leave (back at #100). This is a triumph of the album and my favourite track from it, so seeing it in the lower half of the rate isn't ideal at all. I knew it's a fan-favourite, so it getting four 10's didn't surprise me, but the placement isn't fair. I mean, it does take a while for it to really get going, but when it does, it's fantastic. Those vocals alone deserve at least a 6. It's such a moment.

I definitely didn't foresee "Best of You" outlasting "Dream On", but now I think that means it will leave very soon (it's my second favourite from the album).

3 tracks today and then 4 tracks per day to get us top to top 60. This is the day we find out which b-side is her highest ranked one.

The Saddest Part is now our only b-side left and it is justice it is considered her best. I am ignoring songs like I Ask of You which were both album track and b-side and count those to the albumtrack section. So at the start of top 75 we lose the pristine Underground Army. This fanfavourite had quite the journey. First it premiered during the Live at Last Tour with a music video. Well as a new track the fans ate this up quickly. It got added to the CD single from Heavy on my Heart as b-side. The track was also en route for an album placement tossing away Sexy Single in the US edition of the album. Sadly that got cancelled. Lyrically it is a gift to the fans as she felt like they were essential to her in the healing process from cancer. In later tours it would grow as fan favourite quickly and was also among the tracks to be selected with A4App. And as an obvious winner for that app poll often to no surprise a live rendition was also added to the accompanying album. The closer to be exact. And it fits perfectly there. @Maki will not be pleased however "My favourite out of the B-sides from this album. It has something empowering about it, especially in the chorus, and the production is great. Could've easily replaced "Sexy Single" or, even more aptly, "Maybe Today", even though it's still far from perfect." Lowest scorer @londonrain says "Maybe I expected too much from this song. Poor it." Yes, poor it for receiving such a horrendous score.

The top 75 could've been a bit better, but I'm glad that most of her weakest songs have already left.
These are the songs I'd like to see eliminated next:
How Come The World Won’t Stop
Stalemate
Apology
Broken Wings

+ that single I'll reveal later.

"I Ask of You" and "Don't Stop (Doin' It)" aren't songs I expected to go this far, but they can leave soon, too.

Also, regarding that tie - is it possible to break it based on the amount of 10's? (and I'm asking this for a reason)

Underground Army - 7
~ Turns out this is my highest score out of all her B-sides and I hoped it would be the winner of that category, but I'll take the second place. I don't have any major objections for this song, but it definitely lacks something, perhaps a stronger melody, which would make me like it more. Even though it sounds a bit different to majority of the self-titled (something about the production is more atmospheric), it still would've been a fine addition. It feels very endearing for some reason. And the lyrics are really nice - definitely makes sense why it became a fan-favourite. It could've went a bit further, but I'm not bothered.
Also, I've always thought that a different production (and songwriters/producers) of "Underground Army" meant it was recorded after "Anastacia" was completed and/or released, but I doubt that's the case. Oh, and it seems odd that Anastacia isn't credited as a songwriter for this song.

I definitely envisioned "The Saddest Part" to leave before this one, so now it makes me think it's going to leave very soon.

Since they are the same album I will make one post about them tonight.
Okay, as long as they are at #73 (and please try to reveal the one with more 10's second, since they are swapped on the leaderboard). Based on my scores I see in the leaderboard countdown, I'm almost 100% sure which two songs are leaving (and looks like I'm losing a 10 oof).

Dream On. My lowest score left. I'm not an Aerosmith fan at all so I was never going to love this. Some of the lyrics are good but I don't like the melody. I thought it interesting that my Fanily group's scores were spread right across the board. I gave the song 5.3, @londonrain gave it 1 and @eliminathan gave it 10.

Underground Army - 7.8. The song has an interesting structure. I like the way the production starts slow and then builds and builds until the backing track swells up. Anastacia's ad-libs at the end are great.

If you've tanked 'The Saddest Part' you deserve to lose a ten ;-)

If you've tanked 'The Saddest Part' you deserve to lose a ten ;-)
No, I didn't tank the song, but I gave it a lower score than the current average score. Considering it's a ballad and a B-side, it's holding on pretty well.

And none of my 10's deserve to leave before top 50 at the very least, but looks like some tasteless voters didn't agree with that.
