Look, there is nothing wrong with going back to her musical roots from her first era which was disco-inspired. I get that. What I don’t get why release this as a lead-single cause where is the umph? This screams more albumtrack than anything else. The music video is not a serve either. She is showing of some new tattoos, but if that is the marketing strategy I am not impressed. They knew the music was not impressing so they had to make sure there was something else to talk about instead. The song drifts and drifts and even in this rate it simply is there. Nothing to special. Where was Stupid Little Things when you needed her? This track pulled in the commentary so let's get started with @Cognitive Dissonance "Song goes nowhere. A really disappointing lead." @londonrain agrees, but ads to this "This was really not lead single material but time has been kind to it." I might agree here. But still it is clouded by the whole wrong single pick doing it not any favours.

@berserkboi loves the retro sound "I appreciate the slight ode to music of the early 90s but the melody is on the weak side!" @Maki is a big fan this "Ah, the infamous lead single, where everything apparently started falling apart big time. I really enjoy this song, and even though it's so far from the excellence of her previous lead singles, think it's a solid bop. It grew on me over time. The songwriters really did gave a good listen to her early music, since this is 100% early 2000's Anastacia style-wise (the lyrics, on the other hand, are not). It definitely suits her perfectly. The production has some cool elements to it (like that little 'ding ding' during chorus, which is so cute). It's not perfect, but it's not among her weakest singles, either. Funny thing is that I've heard this song way before I knew who Anastacia is, but I'll talk about it separately." Well now you got me perched! Finally @livefrommelbs found stanning "This bops! TBCH, I stopped following Anastacia's career closely after Pieces Of A Dream, so it's exciting to dive into this part of her discography." Did it end up being worth it?

We find out which three songs are close the top 40 but just missed out. They all are from the 10's, meaning that everything else from Heavy Rotation just walked into the top 40.

The Way I See It - 8.2. I also get a 60's Motown vibe from this, especially in the percussion rhythm, the beat and the driving bass. I like the lyrics.

I Can Feel You - 7. This is listenable when in the right mood but it's generic and could be sung by anybody.
I'm not a massive fan of Ne-Yo songs at the best of times. It's not as bad a lead single as '2 Hearts!'

This song with the most prominent electropop feel is highly out of place on the Resurrection album. At first I thought it fitted better on Heavy Rotation. It is a nice nod to that era. But when the Evolution album was released it was clearly they took this sound and created an entire album around it. It fits like a glove there and is actually in my spotifyplaylist the first track of the Evolution album and it works very well. The song is a massive bop and not only incorporates the dance elements from the Heavy Rotation era, but also the reliance on the background vocals from the first two era’s. A great mash of her sound into one massive earworm that simply demands replays. @londonrain wish she looked further into the future "There was a missed opportunity to call this song "Turn These PAGES!" Instead we have a song that bizarrely isn't on the album that it shares a name with. Anastacia, sis..." @berserkboi says "I am not entirely sold on a couple of production charges for a full 10 but the strength cannot be denied!" @Maki makes a comparison I dd not expect "The cute chants make me think of charity songs when listening to this. The chorus doesn't soar as much as I want it to, but it's a very good song. A bit too basic for my liking."

Catching up a bit:

I Belong to You - 7,75
~ I usually forget about this one, but every time I re-listen to it, it's very pleasant and not that boring at all. Odd that it was her final bigger hit. My favourite part is Anastacia's second verse. Love the melody there.
This exceeded my expectations in terms of placement, since a male collab in foreign language definitely isn't something this forum would rank highly.

You Give Love a Bad Name - 8,75
~ Makes sense that this ended up as a winner of "It's a Man's World". Definitely in my top 3 of that album. She really gives it all with that vocal delivery. And you're right, @Sprockrooster, the production is better than on the most of that album - I don't know why I said it's not as good.
I wish it made top 40, though it did excellently considering how the rest of the album was treated.

Freak of Nature - 7,5
~ One of those songs that are forgettable on a large scale, but are great when listening on their own. This is enjoyable and fun, Anastacia's signature sassy delivery is there and it's but I still think it would've benefitted if it was shortened. Also, the melody seems to be a bit too loose at places. It left the rate just at the right time (i.e. before overstaying its welcome).
Though "Don'tcha Wanna" deserved to go this far when it comes to "

Boom - 6,75
~ Among her weakest singles for sure. The verses and pre-chorus don't stand out and aren't melodically memorable. The chorus is pretty good, but lacks a certain punch and the song falls into the 'pleasantly good' category. I just don't find it anthemic enough and it could've been a much better bop overall. Maybe I need more time with this song, since I've played it very rarely.
Should've been eliminated before "Made for Lovin' You", among other songs.

Surprised to see some of the optional songs still hanging on. We could get rid of some of these, though.
Also, "Evolution" (the song) is among my lowest scores, so that one can leave, too.
Edit: Good.

I Can Feel You | 7.25 | Surprising to find out this is a lead single because it's really not that kind of girl. I'm surprised I gave it such a decent score listening to it now.

Evolution | 7 | Really should have been called "Turn These Pages" for sure, that way it could be buried on a backlist as filler more easily rather than looking like it could be a single since it's the title track of the another album, which subconsciously makes you think it's a bigger moment.

Another single goes. And it is one from the 10's. Which one could it be?

I bet you are forgetting about this one!

Let me page @DJHazey. Understandably he did only this mandatory track as they were pretty much all new to him. So no optionals. But there is a holy trinity of tracks I know he would stan. This is one of them. This sounds like two girlfriends who have known each other forever having fun together going out. I just do not know how they pulled this off. Anastacia needs more female duets and this is proof. It is quirky with that train sounds, but it is also among the best basic bops this rate has seen. When they sing that middle-8 and build up to that double adlib it is literally two angels ascending bless the world with joy. It did nothing chart wise but it did spawn a joint minitour in Belgium, where Natalia is from. In our chart it bettered it's previous placement a lot. In the singlesrate it was the second loss, but here it managed to jump 8 spots in comparison. @livefrommelbs found adding this to his playlist "Big YAS to this turn-of-the-decade bop! LOVE this one - definitely one of my fave discoveries from the rate." @londonrain is a fan "The lyrics are just okay, I guess, but let me bop a bitsy." BOP is the keyword for this track so does our last commenter also calls it a bop? Let's find out from @Maki "A basic bop with a catchy chorus, but not very notable by any means." That settles it. A BOP IS A BOP!

I'll never understand how "a basic bop with a catchy chorus" gets "not very notable" in the same commentary and that's not the only case I've seen it, you always get a few non-fun voters that think that way and it certainly couldn't be me.

I'll have to check this out later, since I've been called out.

Evolution - 10. My highest score from the album and a huge rate discovery. I love the theme of the lyrics; as you turn the pages of your life, you should not look to stay the same, but try to evolve and change for the better. Sometimes you will fail and that's okay, but you should always strive to be the best person you can be.
