So am I cutting my final non-10 on my birthday? No! Alongside the Filippine for 'Anastacia' and 'Sprocky' I wanted to make one for my back-up host
@Maki as a thank you. Sadly we lose crucial letter from our first loss in the top 5 to make that name. But we do go into the top 4 with 4 different albums represented. With 17 10's and 1 11 (meaning 9 people who didn't score it a 10+) we say goodbye to...
Sick & Tired is also following the order in the poprock rate for the past few cuts. But the singles rate seems to be mixed up now despite none of the newer songs being here. The juxtaposition of dark lyrics but goodfeel sound is exactly what Anastacia stands for and Sick & Tired excels at that. She knows she has been through shit. But she doesn’t let it define her. She wants to rise above it and live a happy life. Despite the rotten lemons life throws at her. The signature element to this track is an Indian chant in the chorus that is translated to “finding peace”. It originally stems for Shamur’s Let the Music Play. Sick & Tired samples this track. This track was also used in a new edition of MTV’s The Cut (the talent show where she was discovered). Upcoming artists needed to sample this track into a new song. The Alpine did a marvellous job by doing so on Mondays Look The Same (taken from youtube). The music video is pure fun. She is clearly enjoying it a lot. It just exudes positivity. Masking the dark lyrics very well. In this music video she is playing character who is going to audition for a role in a screen play (the job of her mother). It does however comes over a bit as this is also a reference to the shitty household she grew up in with her father. Or maybe a boyfriend that wronged her. Your love isn’t fair is coming back in the lyrics constantly.
Sadly
@livefrommelbs' wish didn't come true for this birthday twin of mine "
I wouldn't be mad if this one won the whole rate for something different. I think I mentioned this in the ladies of 00s pop-rock rate, but I still think the 'I'm sick and tired of always being sick and tired' line is truly brilliant. To say nothing of the rest of the song, which is all incredible."
@BEST FICTION was almost joined in the 11 department as
@Cognitive Dissonance says "
This was nearly my 11". But also
@RUNAWAY says "
it was between this and one other song for my 11. This song is spectacular. Everything about it is PERFECTION, and wow....she DID THAT with this song, and it slayed me from my very first listen almost 20 years ago. What a song." Though not everyone sees this one as her absolute best as
@berserkboi says "
Almost perfect, though not every aspect lives up to the harmonies of “My Love Is On The Line” hence not the perfect score!" I knew a certain specific element of the song would be catnip for
@londonrain "
I stan the use of the Punjabi sample here". Executed to perfection and
@Maki also agrees with it "
This is so genius. From the sample, to the possible double interpretation of the lyrics; it just is. Something about the chorus just gives me the feels and I think that is due to me probably hearing the song way ago and having a vague memory of how it sounded. I can't describe how I felt after 'properly' hearing it for the first time years and years later. It's certainly become a nostalgia punch ever since."
TOP 4
From the first album 'Not That Kind' we have a big representive. An entry on the pop scene with funky disco elements. A big voice that has a song curated around it just to show what she can do vocally. No wonder it is the last song standing from the album. Representive for taking the crown in this rate from 'Not That Kind' is her first single: 'I'm Outta Love'. Who is part of this team for victory?
From her second album 'Freak of Nature' we have a song I did not expect to do this well. However definitely deserved! A music video simply exuding fun but giving it a summerbop vibe! But also a middle-8/outro that is such an adlib extravaganza I am not sure if anyone else can pull it off. 'Freak of Nature' puts '
One Day In Your Life' for the victory. Who wants it to win?
From her third album '
Anastacia' she is left with only one song. But is anyone surprised this is the last song standing. This song is basically the winner for this rate on default. It can only lose. So with this expectation can it manage a victory. Well she snapped in her most gothrock way and this song is among the zeroes classics. 'Anastacia' has put '
Left Outside Alone' forward. So who wants it to be #1?
From her sixth album 'Resurrection' she came back hard. And I am not exagerating, but obviously biased if I song this is thé come back of the 10's. A song she should have released earlier in her career to have some sort of deserved hit with it. . Will 'Resurrection' pull a victory out of the bag selecting '
Stupid Little Things' as the last song standing. Speak out if you want it to murder the rest of the competition!
Also, no more spoilers.
