Fairly decent tracklist to be fair. Amusing to see Diana Ross, Sting and Rod Stewart getting on haha.
The Diana Ross, Rod Stewart and Sting tracks - and the Steps track, for that matter - have been performing very well on the Airplay charts, makes sense to skew the tracklisting slightly older if the songs are at least being heard on the radio. Young people aren't buying these albums. Kylie has been a regular fixture for the last year, I think she was on 107 and 108. Steps have been on recently too, I think.
For me, I always look at what DOESN'T make the track listing but probably should have. The most glaring omissions to me are Camila Cabello and Griff. Still, having put these types of products together myself I know there's only so much space and they're frankly slaves to what they have approved come deadline day.
I do like how they've moved away from basing it on chart positions though. Having the Radio 2 "legacy acts" on there is quite sensible given who is probably still buying these. That Rod Stewart single is a bit of an earworm! His album is going to be huge this Christmas.
I realise I made a “1 song from each now”playlist when Now 90 came out and your post inspired me to update it, although funny how my music taste has changed as I’ve actually gone back and changed various song choices from the older Now albums.
I swapped out: Now 12 Tiffany for Danny Wilson Now 14 Duran Duran for Then Jericho Now 20 Lisa Stansfield for Zoe (Nostalgic reasons) Now 21 - Opus III for Shakespear’s Sister Now 24 - Sybil (the love I lost) for Duran Duran Now 25 - New Order for Sybil (When I’m Good and Ready) Now 27 - The Cranberries for Enigma Now 50 Daft Punk for Sophie Ellis Bextor Now 82 Rita Ora for Cheryl It doesn’t mean I dislike the songs, it’s just other songs from those albums are more exciting to me at moment after years of overplaying most of them.
It's a fine tracklist and it's working to its advantage that the charts are pretty stagnant that they have to pick some wildcards. Glad Sigrid's Burning Bridges got a spot, and TBC for Little Mix is intriguing........
I only got as far as the first 30 NOWs with that....not sure if I ever posted it. I did turn it into an iTunes playlist, in my NOW folder.
It gets trickier with 2010 onwards Nows, especially when trying not to double up on artists. I’ve added Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart from Now 110, I actually genuinely like that song and it reminds me of my summer hols.
I got halfway through making a second playlist a while ago, keep meaning to go back and finish it. The ones I found the biggest struggle were not the most recent ones but those from around 2016-18. That was genuinely the point where I started feeling my age.
Just had a browse through my "best of NOWs 1-30" (one track per volume) and I'd already be changing a few. Although the one I'd want to change for NOW5 is a track the reissue left off!

Looking at the timings for next weeks NOW 1984 yearbook, it's listing David Sylvian's Red Guitar at 4 25 which would make that the single mix, and I am not sure if that has been available before. Unfortunately it's the longer version of Ollie & Jerry on the set though. I forgot to add SOS Band, Just Be Good To Me comes in at 4 07.
Yes,I think SDE confirmed it’s the single mix of Red Guitar, but it isn’t the single mix of Warning Sign. Grrr.
