Now That's What I Call Music (Nostalgia)

I was in HMV over the weekend and I noticed they had quite a lot of the deluxe edition of the Final Chapter 80-84, and also the Extra 80-84 vinyl box set, I'm guessing there's less demand for these, where as 1985 was no where to be found.

I may have just purchased now 40 - 105
(only about half of the fronts were featured but they were neat piles of 10 with the highest numbers on top and the spines all look fine and the seller at least responded decently (though he didn't send me a pic of the worst looking copy when I asked but that might be because I already placed a bid before he'd even read that), so fingers crossed this isn't gonna be a very expensive mistake. But I'm also assuming with such a complete collection they're likely from one person who hopefully took good care of all of them instead of 'just the ones ending with a 9')

Oh great, I asked for some more pics (preferably of the ones that looked the worst to adjust my expectations) and he keeps sending individual pics including random inside booklet ones and ones that were already clearly pictured with the original ad, which just makes me more worried about the ones I am not seeing, while to be fair the pics made for the original ad look like things probably will be completely fine.
So torn between wanting reassurance and not wanting to be a pain. Also: I already paid??

In case a copy or 2 don't look great I guess I just rather know now so I can adjust my expectations instead of feeling like I've been fooled?

Also when you can DM a max of 5 photos a message who chooses to send things like this???

How much did you pay? They look fine to me. Even if the odd one has a slight bend in a booklet or a chipped case, you'd have paid about £850 for them new. You're only going to put them on a shelf anyway!

Well I'll be ripping them and playing them as well! (also, possibly collecting the other volumes too, though 40 is pretty much the starting point where I really started caring about UK charts, so it's kind of a perfect lot!)
He asked 135 pound, we eventually settled on 110 but with custom fees/shipping thrown in it ends up around 160. Considered telling him to leave out the few I already owned but in the end figured that will make for a few extra cases to replace the bad ones with.

He rated them 'good' and I wondered if that was 'ebay good' or 'Discogs good' (because on ebay even Good Plus usually isn't too great), then he began about always rating lowly because people's standards are all different and I did admit that mine are quite high (better now than once they arrive, though he does accept returns).
The odd bad one won't kill me (though I know I'll be replacing it for a better copy so I obviously hope there aren't too many) it's mainly that I don't wanna end up feeling stupid like "I could have known the ones that weren't properly pictured looked like crap". I'm not the biggest fan of buying without seeing, considering most people offering collections just have shots of all of them up. But I did have a good feeling about this lot, so let's hope I was right.

Well that's an absolute bargain. I'm sure they will be fine if you accept that they're not all going to be in mint condition. That's part of the deal with a big job lot - the seller doesn't want to carefully check every disc and label every single tiny flaw.

At least they're not digipaks or anything like that, so maybe the odd one will just need a new case.

I expect most of them were probably listened to once and twice and then just not touched for years though.

Yeah disc description described 'minor scuffs at most' so taking their word for that. I'm absolutely fine with replacing a few cases (though slightly harder with 2-disc ones but I'll live) if that's the worst part. As long as the booklet/inlays and discs are looking fine. (And if one or two don't I guess I can always go for a Discogs copy that has mint artwork but a bad disc)

Look pretty okay to me, I'd personally be alright with buying that lot. And they come in at just over £2 each including all the postage and stuff, which isn't bad at all. You're saving a huge amount compared to even buying lots of 10 at a time.

About the booklet photo they sent - all I can think is that it's showing that the booklet isn't damaged and the staples aren't rusted or broken or missing. They look well cared for from what I can see.

Yeah I guess. At that point I'd already said I'd rather see just all the fronts so getting insides of booklets that already looked fine on the outside/were already in the initial photos felt a bit redundant.
But overall the photos they did provide look alright apart from the occasional ones like these that help me adjust my expectations

(Fine with this if it's not like 40 CDs that look like that on the outside too. Also that last one's actually from a copy I already own so no harm there)

That was an annoying thing about the design of the hinged 2CD jewelcases, a lot of my bought-from-new-and-handled-carefully NOWs have those corners slightly spoiled.

Hinged in what way (compared to today's cases)?

Also: anyone happen to know if all earlier Now's had transparent cases? (as opposed to the 30/32 here)
