Now That's What I Call Music (Nostalgia)

How are people getting on with the new NOW 15? Any further comments other than the known missing tracks? Mine's on its way.

A (then) nonexisting edit is one thing, but a recording that wasn't even out in said year?
Someone take their license to do compilations.

The "With Rap" mix is on my CD single and am pretty sure I have a 7" possibly European or West German with it on the flip.
On Irish radio back in 1989, we got the LP mix played mostly. Reminds me of cramming for mock exams!

Don't Be Cruel and Forever Your Girl - released same day in June 1988? Remember both albums being played out of car stereos that summer.

Definitely the big two in the US during 88/89. I think of the latter as a 1989 album as that's when it finally charted in the UK after Virgin re-promoted it in April 89 after Straight Up hit. Liked a lot of the Bobby Brown singles but never took to the album (maybe it was the cover...it was a bit "5 Star" naff luxuriousness). Got the expanded deluxe last week so I'm going to reappraise it and create my own artwork.

Yeah the marble always annoyed me. He was much cooler when the album and the singles started hotting but we got stuck with that very 1987 feel artwork. Another similar case was Martika but with the UK label deciding to update the cover for 1989.

It feels a bit picky to blame the artwork but these things do have an effect on perception. You could get away with that kind of look on a Freddie Jackson album, but Bobby Brown needed something more pop and vibrant. Ya know it!

It was a bit unfortunate that the art was very 1985 R&B when the songs took him to almost 90s super pop stardom but it was a nice problem to have. Like for me the UK styling of Step and the Ghostbusters mini era was his best looks. They got the art right with the next album - but not the music dd.

Yeah turning Bobby Brown into a one woman La Bouche was iconic and so smart.
