Now That's What I Call Music (Nostalgia)

So happy we finally have a late 90s Yearbook. '98 was a great year for Pop (and Pop adjacent) singles. I'm curious of what makes the Extra edition as well. Would love to see Imaani on the Extra since Dana made the main one, and Lutricia McNeal, Savage Garden, LeAnne Rimes, and The Tamperer (Feel It or If You Buy...)

Savage Garden & The Tamperer deserved main release.
I agree. It's interesting they didn't get an inclusion - but the awful Texas remix did?

Some of the tracks on Disc 2 are such an inspired and left field choice as well, but I'm not mad at that. Indie Rock, Singer-Songwriters, and Alternative music were such a big part of the zeitgeist in '98, even if I had no interest in that part of the music scene.

For Extra, I'm guessing these could be in:

Spice Girls - Goodbye
All Saints - Under The Bridge (or Lady Marmalade)
Aqua - My Oh My
Five - Everybody Get Up (but I'd rather have Until The Time Is Through
Boyzone - All That I Need (or I Love The Way You Love Me)
Steps - Heartbeat (I think 5, 6, 7, 8 will be saved for 1997)
Robbie Williams - Let Me Entertain You (but I'd rather have No Regrets)
Jennifer Paige - Crush
Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You
Ace Of Base - Always Have, Always Will
Sash! - La Primavera
The Tamperer - Feel It
B*Witched - Rollercoaster
Billie Piper - Girlfriend
LeAnn Rimes - How Do I Live (surprised it wasn't on main)
Mousse T vs Hot 'N' Juicy - Horny
Camisra - Let Me Show You
Lighthouse Family - High (or Lost In Space)
T-Spoon - Sex On The Beach
Sham Rock - Tell Me Ma
Tin Tin Out featuring Shelley Nelson - Here’s Where The Story Ends
Space featuring Cerys Matthews - The Ballad Of Tom Jones
Catatonia - Road Rage
Texas - Insane
Lutricia McNeal - Stranded (or Someone Loves You Honey)
Cleopatra - Life Ain’t Easy
Touch & Go - Would You…?
Fatboy Slim - Gangster Trippin'
Placebo - Pure Morning
Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar
Imaani - Where Are You
911 - All I Want Is You
E-17 - Each Time
Honey - End Of The Line

I would like to see a Savage Garden song, but apparently they've been unlicenseable.

That's a very strong Extra.

I Just Wanna Be Loved by Culture Club was also notable as being a new entry in the UK top 5 the (only ever?) week the whole of the top 5 were all new entries - with Thank U by Alanis Morissette, Outside by George Michael, The Sweetest Thing by U2 and Believe by Cher being the others. Quite an epic week for new releases! The Culture Club single had been hyped as their comeback single after 12 years.

The latest Now series, coming soon...

Garbage had two Top 10s ("Push It" and "I Think I'm Paranoid") and a #15 ("Special") as well as a #1 album in 1998, yet are always ignored by these NOW releases. The only time they were ever on a Now album at the time was Now 35 with the Tricky collab cause Mushroom seemingly preferred to license their stuff to the Shine and the Hits compilations. Even "Stupid Girl" was only ever on the Millennium series. As a fan, it's just... annoying.

I’m disappointed Placebo - Pure Morning wasn’t included on disc 2, it was a top 5 hit, similar situation to Garbage where only one of their songs made it onto a Now album (Now 36 Nancy Boy) despite having several top 5, top 10 and 15 hits from 1997-2006.
Maybe the 1998 extra then.
