Older albums you're loving today.

Criminally underrated and shunned by the charts. Fantasy Deluxe version incoming!

I've recently discovered this album and I'm shocked at how good it is. I remember "All Around the World" from the Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack, and it's still a bop. But it turns out the album is full of bops and it reminds me of Rachel Stevens' Come and Get It and Girls Aloud in some places. I highly recommend it if you're into that style of pop from that time.

Duly noted!

Wow, talk about a blast from the past with that first track.

Also, it reminds me more of Rachel’s Funky Dory album and Lisa Scott-Lee’s Never or Now.

The way this album lives in my regular rotation, and I still go through periods where I play it daily. It's not always the first album I think of when I think of my all time favorites or albums that were formative to my music taste, but it's definitely up there. I think it also started my fascination with albums having different editions and track listings. I remember both editions being in the store when I first got it, and double checking to make sure I had the one with "Free" on it.

This expanded edition was such a gift. The discarded tracks from the original edition finally on digital platforms for the first time (pun not intended) AND the Fernando Garibay mix of "The Best of Me" that I'd been trying to track down for years. Chef's kiss. (ALSO scream at the UK edition having a clean version of "Whatever Bitch" years before the uncensored version was on Moodring.)

Those are probably more apt comparisons. The girl’s somewhat anonymous voice with the dance production is what made me think of Rachel ddd. I was worried from the lead track (which is amazing) that most of the songs would be done in a kind of talking/faux rap style, but aside from that tracks it’s mostly just really good anonymous dance pop. It’s sad the label didn’t seem to really know what to do with them.

It’s lucky someone with taste got them on the Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack. Otherwise they would have completely faded without a trace. It is funny hearing her saying “my lust is returning.” I can’t remember how they censored that for the soundtrack.

Still learning to love this album, almost 30 years later. Some of it is fantastic, always has been. It's the other tracks I struggle with. So I'm trying to approach it with as fresh a perspective as I can.
