1988's The Rumour was the last 'pop' album she made. Although it wasn't really commercial in terms of having songs that would make good singles. After her cancer battle in 1992, her music changed altogether. Even though doing a SAW album in the late 80s/early 90s would have been the obvious thing, I really wish she had. Or the Pet Shop Boys taking her under their wing could have been fruitful. They could have made some great pop records with Olivia. That's true. I also think if Olivia had done more dance and pop in her later years, like Dame Donna doing a SAW album, she might have more of a connection to Popjusticers.
I actually liked her updated version of Physical a few years ago.
She'd have been great with PSB. They were a little limited with Liza who clearly didn't want to stray far from her comfort zone. I think Olivia would have been up for some proper bops.I enjoyed her covers album but I can't think of many of her albums where she had a major bop since The Rumour.
An album with the Pet Shop Boys could have been amazing. They understood Liza and I think they would have understood Olivia. They write great songs for women.
SAW and Olivia with her perfect pop voice, would have been to quote one of her classic hits, Magic! That's true. I also think if Olivia had done more dance and pop in her later years, like Dame Donna doing a SAW album, she might have more of a connection to Popjusticers.

Somewhere between Donna Summer and Kylie! I think Olivia would have been a natural fit for SAW. Wonder if they ever approached her?SAW and Olivia with her perfect pop voice, would have been to quote one of her classic hits, Magic!
The '36' in the title makes me smile each time I see it.
Tommy: I can wait 4 more years
Also Tommy: Fuck it I'm starting the thread.
Not a stan or even a big fan, but I can enjoy a music legend like ONJ!I should have hung on the 4 years...There may have been a few more ONJ fans here by then!
A sprightly looking Olivia on some US TV show plugging Make A Move On Me. Her unique dance moves are out in spades.
She once described it as 'a punk Princess Diana!'That hair!
As I said once before, even Diana herself couldn't pull that do off! Poor Olivia's iconic blonde long locks. She once described it as 'a punk Princess Diana!'
It looked a lot worse when she hadn't bothered to tart it up a bit.As I said once before, even Diana herself couldn't pull that do off! Poor Olivia's iconic blonde long locks.
Oh dear Olivia! It looked a lot worse when she hadn't bothered to tart it up a bit.
As this 1981 picture with Karen Carpenter will testify!

I thought you had it!I am sometimes tempted to buy Physical! Think I should give ONJ's most classic album a proper go anyway!
The videos for all the songs are good. For 1981 at least. The best are Landslide, Physical, Recovery, Stranger's Touch and Silvery Rain.I really like this album, didn't like Silvery Rain at first, but now it's one of my favs along With Landslide (fab video!) and Make a move on me!
I am aware of a few of the songs via the likes of Youtube, her Sky Arts video special with Brian Grant, and of course your good self, but alas, no!I thought you had it!
How dare you not own one of Olivia's greatest works?!
