Olly Alexander - Polari

Ouch, that’s tough. He’ll be lucky to hang on to the top 20 by Friday.

I don’t know what he needs to do to get the general public back on side. Night Call came off the back of It’s A Sin - does he need another high profile acting role to help propel the music? Or is a reality TV move the next one for him?
I guess the general public just aren't there for him.

I think about reality tv spot could so the trick, I'm A Celebrity seems to be the most viable.

He's a decent enough actor that he can pivot back into it fairly easily without needing to do reality TV, I think. I'd be surprised if he couldn't get some decent stage roles given his existing profile.

He's a great little popstar when the material's right and the vibe is right but I think this is probably it for the moment. It's tough being a mid level girlie right now.

I hope Olly gets a Top 10 album with this, it's much better than Night Call which made #1 which surprised me at the time. Polari is such a cohesive and consistently good album with great production. I've just bought a second copy for my mum to help him out as she loves him too!

As much as I enjoy this album I don't hear a single hit on it.

I think the writing was on the wall when Night Call flopped* after It's a Sin, which significantly raised his profile and had literally everyone raving about him and the show at the time. If that doesn't sell the music, I'm A Celebrity certainly won't.

*Yes it was #1 and if I recall correctly Starstruck hung around the Top 40 for ages but the whole affair just had Khia struggle vibes let's be real

I think he's facing an uphill struggle now. He had a shot in the arm after his performance in It's a Sin but the Eurovision flop tag is going to be hard to shake (even though technically he did better than most of our other recent acts).

I’m digging Miss You So Much, I Know, Archangel, Heal You, and Cupid’s Bow. Some of the production choices are interesting, like the chorus of Beautiful which doesn’t feel like a chorus as the music doesn’t really change a ton from the verses. Overall though a great little album.

The album is strong but I can't get over him still doing the same sort of imagery since Palo Santo. Why doesn't he just differentiate from Years & Years and just be Olly Alexander - his Spotify is a mess that I don't think helps him.

I agree, I was thinking how the visuals are what they are because he always does some sort of mythical or art school student vibe but this album doesn't sound like that at all to me.

Thoroughly enjoying the vibe of this album overall, its just what i need right now.

Shadow Of Love is just brilliant, i’m a huge fan of Depeche Mode’s run of albums from 83-90 and this reminds me of their best stuff from that period of their career.

Anyway i think Polari on the whole is a solid 5/5 but my only minor nitpick is that i would have preferred the performance version of Dizzy to have gone on the album, it sounds much more complete & fuller where the version on here just ends too abruptly.

Ouch number 13 in the midweeks. My banquet records hasn't shipped yet but not sure how well they will hold him up. Think it's safe to say it'll miss the top 10
