Oscar Bait 2022 - 2023

It’s rare I think to have such a big Acting scene come off so perfectly, and to be directed so well… the plate crashing, the door slam, Sissy’s voice just distant enough (“He wouldn’t listen to me, Matt! He didn’t trust me, you made sure of that!”), the claustrophobia of their idyllic New England home…

To me it looks a little obtuse and dark for the Academy. It could finally be time for Colin Farrell however, his looks like the plum role.

If this trailer is deliberately designed to give nothing away, then great...but they may have gone a bit far with it. You can't even really tell what it's meant to be about.

If anyone is interested, the NY Times Popcast podcast did an episode about Elvis where they do a deep dive into the movie, and talk about what the film got right and what it didn’t. I found it a good discussion.

Top Gun is already outranking Thor in the box office with twice as long of a theatrical run, give it a best picture nod just to really rile up the girlies.

I can low-key see it winning, especially with the new voting / ranking system which has already been show to benefit the ‘crowd-pleasing’ film.

Don’t Worry Darling is a total stinker… I can feel it in my bones… I know it… I know it

Whenver I see the trailer I’m just amazed by how they literally show Harry speak two words of dialogue for the entire thing when he’s one of the biggest draws for audiences to even see it and how painfully obvious that makes it that he can’t act and they had to conceal it.
