I actually forgot JLC is nominated. She’ll probably win and I’ll be gobsmacked. Still stand by the rest tho.

Surely Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu will split the votes for their film, leaving it down to Angela or Kerry to take it. Angela had the momentum at the start of the season but I think Kerry might sneak it. Definitely one of the most interesting categories as it could go any way. Hong Chau could even pull a surprise.

That didn’t happen for SAG, so voters are probably thinking the nomination is the win for Hsu.

Melissa Leo, Octavia Spencer, Sam Rockwell and Daniel Kaluuya all won at the expense of their own co-star, and those are just the ones since 2010. I don't think splitting the vote will be the issue - Jamie Lee is likely well ahead because she's been a well-known name for 40+ years without any previous recognition. For Stephanie, the nomination is the win.

Really if we're going purely on performances, Kerry Condon should be running away with it. The others were all very good but she was exceptional.

A24 has run one of the greatest campaigns of all time by convincing everyone that because Michelle is so great that everyone and everything around her is equally as good. I’ve seen goodwill and recognition towards one performer lift a film or supporting actors to nominations, but I’ve never seen a lead carry everyone else on their backs to the point where they’re considered front runners.

I think Kerry will win BS.

I can’t see Banshees not walking away without an acting award with the amount of acting nominations its scored.

Colin could surprise. I think Michelle will pull through but it will be close.

Both are excellent performances by Mum, but something about the former just feels more special to me. The ending especially sticks out. There is no dialogue for the 4 minute scene but the way Amy acts out the subtle movements of shedding her mask (harsh makeup and perfect hair not in her face), goes to the restaurant with a sense of hope in her that slowly diminishes as she realises Edward is not coming and the last moment on the closeup of her eyes. All perfection.


Jake and Aaron also deserved nods too. Michael was good but I still feel baffled at him getting the nod even though Aaron won the Globe.

I'd still say Arrival was her better shot - she doesn't even have a ton of dialogue in Nocturnal Animals. However, I did really like Nocturnal Animals but for me the snub was Tom Ford for director.

I think the fact she says so much in that role without actually saying anything shows just how good she is. It’s a shame that this and Arrival came out so close together as she deserved recognition for both performances.

Nocturnal Animals is Top 2 Amy Adams for me (behind The Fighter, ahead of Doubt).

I’d only have nominated her once so her awards career is way overrated to me…

After being underwhelmed by the Saiorse Ronan hype for the new Steve McQueen movie a few pages back… I just noticed that the underappreciated Hayley Squires and DAME KATHY BURKE BACK OUT OF RETIREMENT are in it too…

Well I just finished Women Talking and I would like to redo this entire awards season. Can we just introduce a Best Ensemble Oscar and give it to the cast?

I had to stop the film several times because it was a lot. I know everyone talks about Claire Foy and Jesse Buckley but Judith Ivey and especially Sheila McCarthy really were the standouts for me.
