Oscar Bait 2023-2024

I loved Maestro - I found it really moving, the use of music was great and I think for a non-conductor, he did a decent job at channelling Lenny with only a few years training.
Carey Mulligan was sensational, and I think Cooper did a great job bringing it all together. It felt honest, without falling into fawning or being overly critical.

I hated everything in the black and white part of Maestro. It gets better in the second half, but I’m still none the wiser about their relationship, his fellas, or his music.

Was there a story that Cooper was trying to tell? Cos I must have missed it.

It's still so wild to me that people go to the cinema on Christmas day in the US, it's the one day of the year that they're not open in the UK.
Odeon have a few open this year, including showing Ferrari at Leicester Square… certainly one way to ruin Christmas for yourself.

I'm one of the most regular cinemagoers I know and still couldn't imagine going Christmas day, but of course that day means different things to different people.

Ferrari is more like something I'll watch on a cold Tuesday in January.

I believe he’s exploring similar themes in both A Star is Born and Maestro. Namely his own substance abuse issues, the stress of fame, the contradictions between art vs commerce and his failed relationships. Less generously you could say he’s saying look how difficult it is being me/Leonard Bernstein.
