Oscar Bait 2023-2024

I think… they’ll give Justine Original Screenplay, or at least what I mean is I wouldn’t be surprised if they do. That would kind of fit the recent pattern of giving the awards to a broader cast of people. Then Oppenheimer will take Director and Picture, it’s just so rare that they have an opportunity to give a prestigious film like it Picture, and it also be one that general audiences saw and pushed it to $1B. To pass on that would be another nail in the Academy’s coffin.

Barbie is all about Billie.

I'm intrigued to see who starts winning at SAG / Bafta.

I'm just getting a tiny rumbling in my puss that Sandra is gonna swoop in last minute. Just a feeling I've got!

I’ve been thinking this for a while (though SAG will of course give us no clues… unless Margot wins!)

I see Sandra taking BAFTA then Oscar but have no justification for this (it would also mean that she was Top 3 in their first round, which in turn would mean Emma, Carey or Margot were a jury pick, none of which seem viable).

Having now seen them all, my order of the best picture nominees is probably:

Killers of the Flower Moon
The Zone of Interest
Oppenheimer
Past Lives
Anatomy of a Fall
Poor Things
The Holdovers
American Fiction
Barbie
Maestro

Everything’s at least 3/5 for me, a really solid year.

I think I’m at:

The Zone of Interest
Anatomy of a Fall
Poor Things
Oppenheimer
Past Lives
Barbie
Maestro
Killers of the Flower Moon

Still need to see The Holdovers and American Fiction (which I won’t watch until after I read Erasure… so I need to get to that as soon as possible).

My top 3 could probably be in a different order tomorrow, and I’d be happy with any of my top 5 winning.

She's a great actress, but as I covered earlier in the thread, I don't think she was robbed on any of her previous nominations.
