Oscars Race 2024-25

...And they shouldn't? Honestly pretty incredible that "challenging" work like Demi's role in The Substance and Sebastian in A Different Man are now considered awards movies, when they are pretty much exactly the type of tonally challenging, "genre" material these types of award shows wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole just a few years ago.
I don’t understand the point you’re trying to make as it pertains to my original post, but he could’ve chosen to focus solely on the film that he was actually on stage for. Instead, he continued playing a tiny violin and patting himself on the back for bravely playing…a man who was just re-elected to be the most powerful person in the world. So brave! That was my point.

Isn't this the point? He unfavorably portrayed a notoriously vengeful man who isn't subtle about making it his mission to punish anyone who speaks against him... and yeah, he's about to be the most powerful man in the world again. How was it not brave for Sebastian to take and continue championing that part? The most powerful CEOs in the world (some of whom employ many of the people in this very room) have donated to Trump's inauguration. People are tripping over themselves to make nice with him, despite what their morals might be. It's an act of bravery to continue to speak out against him and speak up about who he really is.

He didn’t speak out against him? He chose to use his speech to shoehorn in a mention of a film he wasn’t winning for to reinforce this bizarre notion that The Apprentice was some kind of brave art piece. The conversation surrounding the film has always been less about people not being able to “confront” difficult conversations, as he alluded to tonight, and much more about a lack of desire to watch a film about someone so insufferably omnipresent.

I just thought it was strange to take time to mention a separate film while literally accepting an award for another.
