I'd argue Tears is even more GP pandering to be honest. It wasn't even meant to be a single until they saw Espresso smashing, right? The problem is, Espresso is lightning in a bottle whereas this just isn't very good. And I say that as someone who liked Forget About Us (though I don't think it was first single worthy).

Tears sounds absolutely nothing like Espresso so if that was their thinking, time to get a team with ears.

Tears has grown on me but nothing about it says hit.

Yeah, I'm side-eying Dipesh so hard for green-lighting Tears. Everything goes through him and he probably thought the disco elements were similar when Tears has nothing else going for it.

It shouldn’t be one of her first singles as a solo artist.

Why do I see a covers album in her future? Not that I'd mind, but her covers thus far have been much better than her singles.

Honestly, I think part of the problem with Perrie is that she absolutely loves singing, but maybe isn't as fussed about the music itself. She was never into songwriting the way Leigh-Anne and Jade were. And even now as a solo artist, I personally just don't feel like her heart is in it. And to be fair, she's already achieved so much with Little Mix, maybe she just isn't that fussed about trying to also be successful and get huge chart positions with her solo music.

I think she'd probably be delighted to do a covers album and sing her heart out on all her favourite songs just for the fun of it.

I dont't think anything from those sessions made the "album"...judging by the people she's mentioned in interviews.
