Perrie - "You Go Your Way" + Debut Album

he / him
People have already been saying here she should shop in songwriters so I don't see the problem... I just hope they don't pretend it isn't a cover

She is undoubtedly an outstanding singer, has great charisma and a very charming and bubbly personality… but she lacks a clear vision as an artist! She needs a good team around her for that and she obviously hasn’t. It’s a shame because the potential and goodwill is there. From all of the girls I think she had it the easiest to smash, but they messed it up… At this point they should go back to the drawing boards and start from scratch.

I think it's unfair to blame 'her team' for her not having a vision as an artistic for herself. Both Leigh-Anne and Jade (and dare I say Jesy) knew exactly the type of artists they want to be.

Perrie has been in the business for over a decade. If she hasn't figured it out by now, we are fighting a losing battle.

Having said that, the new song sounds great (I wasn't familiar with the original) and I hope it does well. But in terms of her as an artist, I have very zero faith in our girl - as lovely and talented-singer as she might be.

I think she’s dangerously close to being eventually confined to Ella Henderson territory. They need to find her a musical identity - and a visual one - as it’s all very 2015 right now.

This song does sound like it’s going to bop but yeah, a cover after all the talk of the album sessions… not looking great.

Right now she's giving B&M bargains pop. And we already have enough generic British female singers (some of them I unashamedly love!), but is there really space for another.

We don't need another Anne-Marie or Ella Henderson, and Perrie does have the voice and the range and the presence to be more than that. She has charisma, she's one of the best vocalists around and she's gorgeous. How they've fumbled the bag so far is beyond me.

Not too much on Ella ... she's secretly become one of X Factor's most successful alumni. Ten Top 10s and 15m monthly listeners is nothing to scoff at. We'd be thrilled if one of our Little Mix girlies achieved those stats.

This (if not their entire group carreer) definitely shows they did something right putting the girls together.

If she was covering a well known song I'd get the apprehension more, but it was clearly a massive flop so it's not like anyone will know it's a cover. The fact that the snippet was out for over a week, and she even said that she worked with Joy Anonymous on it, and it still took until now for anyone to notice dd.

This was also one of the tracks that was played at the listening parties at the beginning of the year, so it's not like it's a last minute track they've grabbed out of desperation. Apparently it was also the best track they played oop.

It sounds like a bop to me though? Nothing groundbreaking, but it seems very catchy.

I mean, Pop is kind of littered with cases like this (‘Don’t Cha’ and ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ being slight reworks of flop tracks which hadn’t caught on prior) so I don’t think there’s anything ostensibly wrong with the approach.

Whether it pays off for her or actually ends up being any good is a whole other question.

Nobody‘s blaming her team though. It starts with Perrie, but she’s obviously lacking a clear artistic vision, which is okay. Not every successful artist has or needs that, but in that case you have to rely on a strategy provided by your team. Right now neither is in place…
