Pet Shop Boys

Never thought about remixing West End Girls, cause it´s a bit overplayed and remixed to death. But I got many requests and finally set myself a limit of exactly one hour to see if I could find a somewhat unique approach to it.
So I came up with brooding synth intro that switched to a strutting, syncopated beat after 90 seconds only to add many old and new layers as it went along.
I think I can claim that this mix actually does add a new approach to this timeless classic.

This being the 2023 remaster suggests it's just the plates for the first 2 discs of Smash being used for this, which was based to mimic Discography itself. I have a first pressing of Discography and the Smash box set, so I definitely don't need this.
Alternative and Format on the other hand... Can we have those please??

Also, Pet Shop Boys didn't do coloured vinyl when they reissued all their albums a few years ago, could this be the start of that campaign?

The only problem I have with PopArt is that the version of I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind of Thing isn't *quite* the single version. I haven't listened to it for years but I seem to remember something is missing from it and it just didn't quite sound like the Beatmasters remix pedantic me knows.

And we all know there's nothing worse than incorrect versions on a greatest hits!

I think it's missing the brass bits in the interlude.
PopArt initially at least also had the album version of Heart, though in some ways I prefer that mix.

I've just checked both versions, and the bit I can hear that is "wrong" on PopArt is in the last 30 seconds.

How it *should* sound, from 4:15

How it sounds on PopArt, from 4:15

It's missing that, I don't know, popping sound as it fades out and is replaced with a much softer sound. The smallest of differences, but oh so important! It's one of the aspects that I loved on the single version.

The bit I was thinking of is from 2.11. The video version doesn't have the repeated staccato brass fanfare of the PopArt version, which seems to have been lifted from the album version but is much quieter than it is on the album version.

Oh yes, that part too is quite different, also missing that same sound. I wonder why they made these small modifications for PopArt, but what makes it sound just a bit lacklustre.
