Pink: The Discography Rate ∞ WINNER!

Discussion in 'Charts, rates etc' started by swim, May 28, 2019.

  1. Looking at the title, I thought that "Please Don't Leave Me" was eliminated for a second.

Anyways, the 'rule' has been broken:
"Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely)" was one of the two of my lowest remaining scores, so it's perfectly fine it left before the top 10. It's such a catchy song, I would've given it a higher score now (because I barely changed my scores for songs from "I'm Not Dead" which were used in the 'poprock ladies' rate) and a great single choice.
And I love how some of the voters (including @Lost Boy) thought it was not going to do well enough, yet here it is, with an average score close to 9!

Most Girls not making the Greatest Hits (especially when You Make Me Sick did if I remember rightly) still bugs me.
  3. That is really odd (although "You Make Me Sick" wasn't included), it's her biggest hit from debut era, too.

And while we're at "Most Girls" (and that Britney song I've heard of, but didn't listen to until today), here's another amazing song from 2000 that uses operatic vocals flawlessly:
  4. "You Make Me Sick" is present in the European versions. The best-of had a myriad of different tracklists depending on the territory, but yes Most Girls is one of the few singles omitted from every version.

What annoyed me was the inclusion of Bad Influence and the fact that Last To Know was given an additional 'the' in it's title on the DVD.

I was so sure Most Girls would have cracked the top 10. It's kind of a perfect song and still one of her finest crafted songs. I was really hoping the top 10 wouldn't have become just a showdown between I'm Not Dead / Funhouse but that was always going to be hard not to achieve. I guees Happy may shake things up a little unless it lands at #11.

  7. Oh, I'm sorry. I only looked at the international version.

However, "Most Girls", along with every single from her other albums, only appears on the DVD deluxe edition.
  8. Annoyingly - Leave Me Alone's official tour video doesn't appear but instead the backdrop for the Funhouse Summer Carnival version appears.

  9. Huh, which version is this? I always assumed the one I had was the "regular" European/international version.
Seeing You Make Me Sick (???) on there, but not Leave Me Alone and Whataya Want From Me feels... weird. If they wanted another song from the debut album on it, surely Most Girls would've been the much better choice?
  10. I think this one was for Germany, I seem to remember they had the highest number of tracks. The "worst"/shortest version was the US, basically putting the minimum amount for every album and deleting Whataya and Heartbreak Down, but adding Glitter In The Air as it was a hit there.

    Highest score: 10x13

How did I become so obnoxious?
What is it with you that makes me act like this?
    I've never been this nasty
Can't you tell that this is all just a contest?
The one that wins will be the one that hits the hardest
But baby I don't mean it
    I mean it, I promise

Tragedy befalls the rate as one of her best ever singles falls just outside of the top ten by a measly little crumb of a difference. Would it have been up to me, this would have been in contention for the very top, what with it being maybe her best ever single? I'm also hopeful that it'll be remembered as one of her best, because I think time hasn't dulled its shine in the slightest.

The epitome of her hate/love songs, 'Please Don't Leave Me' is literal begging for someone to stay with you in the utter realisation that someone is your everything and you've taken it for granted. It's a sentiment I know well, and admittedly I don't think its an entirely healthy one, but sometimes you really do feel like getting down on your knees and saying PLEASE just don't leave. Because for everything, that's the worst. When you can deal with the heartbreak, you can deal with the blows and the pain, there's one thing you just can't face: being alone.

Of all the songs I know, I've always wanted the production process for this to be detailed. Working with Max Martin, it's hard to find out where any of this came from despite it sounding exactly from P!nk's wheelhouse. Basically I want to know who came up with that absolutely monumental 'Da da da da' section, because it has haunted my thoughts for years now.

Can I just say how fucking amazing this god damn album was? The sheer expression and POWER in this, then to go to the "Actually, I don't even fucking believe you. You won't go anywhere" of 'I Don't Believe You'. Fucking amazing.

    Commentary corner:
@Verandi: (10) The best single from the album by a country mile. She did that with the chorus.

@The Hot Rock: (10) My favorite of the Funhouse singles at the time of release. Love the interplay between the guitar and her vocals. Nice bassline too.

@sapnu puas: (10) “I forgot to say out loud how beautiful you really are to me” god. I forgot how much I loved this line/song.

@savilizabeths: (10) “The lyrics here are so good. She’s so strong yet vulnerable and the perspective is so interesting. I know there are a lot of people who are like this in relationships. I don’t relate at all but I find it super fascinating. God, I just really love this song. I always have."

@rick: (9.5) Great fun, perfect video.

@R27: (8.75) Probably the best take on the toxic love theme that has dominated much of the latter half of her career.

@Maki: (8.25) And we start with the 'da, da, da' theme of the album. I wasn't too keen on this song for some time, but But there's nothing wrong with it; just can get bit monotonous. The chorus is so pleasing. The music video makes me like the song even more.

@tylerc904: (8) I was always a little salty this had more longevity than Sober (in the States anyway), but it was another excellent single.

@abael: (7) Well done, just too safe and well trodden a path

@JMRGBY88: (7) bring this song back!

  12. THE TOP 10:

    Don't Let Me Get Me
    Just Like a Pill
    Family Portrait
    Who Knew
    Long Way to Happy
    U + Ur Hand
    I Don't Believe You

  13. I'm... so tired. The top40 has been a real mess and the top10 too. The song is in my Pink top3. Tragic. Like the fuck. Try might be the best from its album but it's not saying much. Happy is just there. Long Way To Happy is great but not a discography top10.

I'm fully ready to see Just Like A Pill's unmixed and unmastered ass take the top spot instead of Who Knew.
GimmeWork and Phonetics Girl like this.
  14. I have no idea what I'd switch out for it but WHAT. THE. FUCK?
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS at Happy making top 10!
Long Way To Happy and Try absolutely belong here as well.

This is actually a really solid top ten. All of my 10s are here and I only have one sub-8 score left.

  16. SADLY.

I'd never thought a song like that could reach the top10 honestly.
  17. I liked this but I just wanna say that I do not agree with giving any of the songs left a sub-8 score. Like, I can understand a lot of other songs being that low for people, but none of the songs left do.

  19. Scores left 11x1 10x1 9x3 8x4 7x1. It could be worse but I had 17 tens.

  20. I think I gave thirteen 10s in this rate and I still have 7 (including my 11) left. Excellent job everyone x
