Pixie Lott Discography Rate | We have a winner!

Cry And Smile - 6.5. My least favourite of the four 'Cry' songs. Parts of it sound uncannily like 'The Rose.'
Pleasant but doesn't go anywhere.

Black As Rain - 8.5. I really like the usage of meteorological imagery in the lyrics. The string arrangement is lovely and the vocals are textured and mature.

I... realised only now that there are four "Cry" songs.

Let's move on quickly today, since it's Saturday night.

The One (Stan Walker feat. Pixie Lott)
Average: 6.343

Max: 8.0 (@BubblegumBoy, @bonnieetclyde) 7.9 (@pop3blow2)

I honestly didn't know who Stan Walker was before this rate and got to learn he is an Australian-born, New Zealander recording artist, winner of season 7 of Australian Idol. Maybe our Australians taking part in the rate can tell us a bit more, eh?

The One is included in Stan's second studio album From The Inside Out. They never met, with Pixie's parts being recorded in the UK.

Pixie had a mild success in New Zealand in the beginning of her career, with Mama Do reaching top 20 in the charts, so that was to keep her name popular there somehow.

Well, they could have at least performed the song together once, couldn't they? I guess they actually never met!

Let's eliminate two tracks in one post, shall we? Another 10 falls.

Thinking about it now, I might have been too harsh to this one.

We Just Go On closes the standard version of Young Foolish Happy and is a pretty ballad, as you can guess by the title, about perseverance.

I suppose the position of the track in the album was a little cursing, because the team behind it is stellar:
Steve Kipner, responsible for Genite In a Bottle by Christina Aguilera; Andrew Frampton, that has a few other tracks with Pixie in his catalogue, but also Natasha Bedingfield and Victoria Beckham; and Patrick Jordan-Patrikios, the youngest of them all, with Olly Murs and Little Mix in his portfolio.

The track was performed in a Xmas charity special in 2011.

And while Young Foolish Happy looses another track, it's the extras that are suffering the most here.

Dream Boats and Miniskirts
Average: 6.400

Max: 8.5 (@BubblegumBoy) 8.1 (@berserkboi)
Min: 3.0 (@Verandi) 4.5 (@Laurence)

So this track was included in the compilation album of the jukebox musical of the same name (Dream Boats and Miniskirts - Those Were the Days), that was a sequel to Dream Boats and Petit Coats.

The musical showcase young love and aspirations of the youth in the 60s and contains classics by Supremes, Marvelettes and Tom Jones, but also some original tracks, performed by the musical cast.

Pixie never really performed the track, but the cast of the play did a few times when on tour. To be honest this type of sound kinda suits her retro vibe, but sis has a clear problem with picking a target audience. One could call it versatilty, appeals to all ages though.

Two more to finish the day!

Some of you can't aprecciate the few good album tracks of Young Foolish happy, can you?

The Thing I Love
Average: 6.6407

Min: 4.0 (@Laurence) 5.0 (@WhenTheSunGoesDown, @Phonetics Girl)

The Thing I Love was co-written and produced by The Underdogs, aka Harvey Mason Jr and Damon Thomas. These two are known for their work with Kpop stars such as BoA, Girls' Generation and Big Bang.

The duo was also responsible for a special version of Dancing On My Own included only in the Japanese and Korean edition of Young Foolish Happy that featured G-Dragon e T.O.P from Big Bang. Pixie's sophomore album reached the top 20 in South Korea.

As you can see by the high scorers, I enjoy The Thing I Love a lot, but if you're curious to listen the version of Dancing On My Own (our number #68 of the rate) with the kpop stars, here it is.

A clear tribute to motown, the genre that influenced Pixie a Lott (see what I did here?) in her career, and most importantly a tribute to one of the most important artists of the genre.

Apparently they never met and Stevie never told what he thinks about the song. Or if he knows about its existence...

We're really decimating Young Foolish Happy, aren't we?

The One - 7.5. Like the piano and the beat when it kicks in. The solo performances from Pixie and Stan are very good and their voices mix well together.

We Just Go On - 9. I love that the verse lyrics are in the form of questions, as I'm always asking questions of myself, and the title phrase is used as an answer to them. In the end, I just go on.

Good morning!

The first 5 songs are banger after banger tbh.

So, you decided another decent track from Young Foolish Happy was not worthy of a top 40 placement.

Average: 6.507

I get the final tracks were getting low scores, because by the end of the album you kinda feel fatigued, but this... this is outrageous! The opening track of Pixie's sophomore albums falls.

Those initial drums and those "oh oh oh oh oooh"s set the mood for the bangers that are about to come! Altough I think the song was not exactly benefited from coming right before All About Tonight in the tracklist.

It was written by Lott, plus Mr Hudson (Paloma Faith, Alex Clare) and Cathy Dennis. YEAH! THE CATHY DENNIS! See what you did here now?

Live For The Moment was included in the soundtrack of the movie StreetDance 3D. It tells a story of a group participating in a dance competition that could change their lives or something.

Never watched this movie, but if I do it will because of the soundtrack, that besides Pixie, includes Get Sexy by Sugababes, Fight For This Love by Cheryl and a few tracks by N-Dubz. The budget for the movie was £3.5 million and it made £11 million, so not bad!

I predicted my 11 would go at #57, so you can bet I'm on the rooftop rn.
Live for the Moment is a mess so I was waiting with bated breath for its exit, not gonna lie. Come Get It Now's a cute little bop, though I'm starting to feel like a Young Gooish Floppy apologist, so lemme take this loss with dignity.
