TURN IT UP 8,08 - 10x4
TURN IT UP LOUDER 5,65 - 10x1

PLATINUM PIXIE - HITS 5,00
EXTRAS 4,27
B-SIDES 4,50
COLLABS 4,43 - 10x1

I quite like Pixie but some of these tracks have gotten a lot weaker with age are just weak I see now, and most of 'em filler is just say.
Still, a darling girl and happy to be in this rate! Someone has to sacrifice to be on @Verandi's side every rate - this was my turn.

Our bronze medal goes to

Mama Do (Uh Oh Uh Oh)
Average: 9.193

Max: 11.0 x 2 (@berserkboi, @Laurence) 10.0 x 4 (@BubblegumBoy, @Remorque, @saviodxl, @TwistedInnocence)
Min: 7.0 (@Phonetics Girl) 7.9 (@Untouchable Ace)

It's not exactly easy for a new artist to get a #1 with a debut single and become a known face in pop music, but sis did just that!

Uptempo electropop with synths and and melodramatic soulful vocals were the perfect combination for a hit! Add that to a rebellious attitude of a girl who wants to go out and get a boy behind her parents back, but fears the possible outcomes of being found out.
And of course, a cute music video with a handclap move.
Pixie teaches you how to do the clap move:

The popularity of Pixie and the song was so big that even the B-side of the single charted in the UK (the awful cover of Kings Of Leon's Use Somebody, our last place of the rate).

I guess this is what they called a spectacular beginning.

Let's see what our two 11 givers had to say:
Laurence: "Love this. I think she came around when I was in UK for holiday in the summer. Good memories but a bit of a boring holiday because we had kittens at home and I wanted to be with them every day!"
Well, Pixie's fans are named Cats, so there's that!

berserkboi: "The song I know best by Pixie (it’s still on my iriver! Ddd), and potentially the standard I’ll be judging else by! 11 here, so yes - this is the one for the Berserky Ages!"

Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh) 7.9 From the minimal info I had on her at the time I thought, who is this Annie / Natalia Kills looking Brit? With this strange name and silly sounding single title. It wasn't enough for me to track her down and I only I've only listened to her now for this rate. This song is too mellow for an introductory song.

Want You 6.1 Chimes? No thanks.

Coming Home (feat. Jason Derulo) 8.9 Died in your arms tonight.

Doing Fine (Without You) 9.2 Of course they didn't release the best song as a single.

Champion 8.8 Walking through the desert at night

Heart Cry 7.7 Not sure this was the best choice for a single

Won't Forget You 8.8 Oh Pixie, you've got to trust the choreography. Stop looking down

Point of No Return 8.3 Another upbeat song that would have been great to fill an album.

Mama Do - 9. I expected this to be Top 2. The song is catchy and I like the soulful backing track, especially the hand claps, but think that the verses are slightly stronger than the chorus. The middle eight is my favourite part.

I am very happy with the Top 2 and gave both songs 10.

Oh well, just like our girl's streak of top 20 singles in the UK, this rate has to come to an end!

Honestly I wasn't expecting any of these tracks to win. I thought All About Tonight or Mama Do had it in the bag! But hey, them two are deserving winners and amazing tracks!

Our Silver Medal goes to...

Lay Me Down
Average: 9.443

Max: 10.0 x 6 (@saviodxl, @WhenTheSunGoesDown, @Untouchable Ace, @Laurence, @MilesAngel, @Remorque) 9.5 (Steve) 9.2 (@berserkboi)
Min: 8.5 (@bonnieetclyde) 9.0 x 5 (@Verandi, @TwistedInnocence, @pop3blow2, @Phonetics Girl, @BubblegumBoy)

Our Silver Medal didn't get any 11, but look at those six 10s and the highest lower score 8.5! Ain't no other track got a lower score that high the whole rate! We really love that song, don't we? It's the love this highly polished R&B-tinged pop song deserves!

Lay Me Down was the second official single of Pixie Lott (the album), released in July of 2014, and showed a more mature and glamorous side of Pixie, for the song and the video! Sis shot it in Cannes, France, in a yacht and a mansion, in the most retro-diva style, toning down her girlishness and evidencing womanhood.

Unfortunately Lay Me Down peaked outside the top 100 in the UK (#114) lacking those needed streams, but managed a #76 in the Sales Only Chart. It got top 30 in South Korea though, go figure!
Sis had the audacity of not including this gem of a single (and What Do You Take Me For) in her greatest hits compilation Platinum Pixie - Hits.

I can see pop music bloggers, TV shows and whatever the technology brings talking about this song in 5 years or so as a "hidden treasure" of some sorts, because it is!

And this means our winner is...

Boys & Girls
Average: 9.986

Max: 11.0 x 4 (@Remorque, @pop3blow2, @bonnieetclyde, @Untouchable Ace) 10.0 x 7 (@WhenTheSunGoesDown, @BubblegumBoy, @berserkboi, @MilesAngel, @Laurence, @TwistedInnocence, @Verandi) 9.3 (@saviodxl)
Min: 8.0 (Steve) 8.5 (@Phonetics Girl)

When those four 11s started coming, the other songs didn't stand a chance! This electro pop retro-styled uptempo banger is our favorite Pixie Lott song!

Boys & Girls was the second single ever of Pixie Lott and her second #1 in a row (after Mama Do) and grabbed top 5 in Ireland, Belgium and Spain. It's a party song! Producer Fraser T. Smith said that when he got Pixie's demo of the track he wanted something that would work on the dancefloor as well on the radio and that would make the younger audience bop along, but at the same time get attention of adults. He even added the iconic trumpet sound we listen in the first seconds of the songs, that was lacking in the demo. This is him by the way:
images

In the video, Pixie dances along, well, boys and girls, and at time she said "It's unusual for a British performer to do singing and dancing, but it's important if you're a pop star to do everything". It sure is sis! It can make a song win a rate!

Here's what our 11 givers had to say:
bonnyeetclyde: "Just the best track she's released to-date. It's the definition of a ''banger'' with a cool music video. I like the brass instruments mixed with electronic pop. Wikipedia tells me it sampled Rhianna's 'Shut Up & Drive' but I'm not sure if that's true but certainly very similar. It's very of it's time but a great song is a great song."

pop3blow2: "Whew. A perfect pop single. All the balance was on point here. A bit soulful, but still hip/young sounding & full of energy. Very of its moment in all the best ways. One of the '2010 from concentrate' kinda songs. It made me buy her album & even though it was payed to death on some radio I listened to at the time I didn't care one bit."

Untouchable Ace: "This is the one with crossover appeal. It should have been pushed more everywhere, because I'm thinking it's her only song I will recognize. She's got 'Just Dance' video visuals still doing her Duffy thing but with a Ke$ha griminess. All of this for the Skins watching boys and girls. It is officially her best song."

Remorque didn't send a write up! But an 11 score says it all!

Well that's it boys and girls! Thank you for taking part in my first ever rate of an artist I really like!

I'll post the sessions recap of Turn It Up and Pixie Lott soon!

And in case you're interested I'm hosting a 2010s #1s by Britsh Ladies in the UK, which will include, of course, All About Tonight. When will that be? I don't know yet! But watch this forum!

As promised, but under Spoiler Tag for length! Ddd

TURN IT UP

Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh) - 11 - The song I know best by Pixie (it’s still on my iriver! Ddd), and potentially the standard I’ll be judging else by! 11 here, so yes - this is the one for the Berserky Ages!

Cry Me Out - 8.5

Band Aid - 9

Turn It Up - 9.5

Boys And Girls - 10 - A bit of a boppy classic!

Gravity - 5.7 - Unpleasant tone on here!

My Love - 7.3 - Pretty good despite some odd enunciation choices!

Jack - 8.6 - Silly moments in the lyrics but closer to charming than clumsy!

Nothing Compares - 6.2 - This is nice and pretty but not the best attempt I have heard at this sort of thing!

Here We Go Again - 10 - This is sooooooo GAGA - I didn’t even need to hear RedOne at the start! Dddd

The Way The World Works - 6.4 - A ditty!

Hold Me In Your Arms - 7.1 - Not unpleasant but I can’t think I’d be returning to it!

TURN IT UP LOUDER

Without You - 6.5 - Cute little song though the “Without You” parts are the weakest!

Rolling Stone - 9.6 - This kicks ass despite some affectations!

Want You - 8.8 - The back half is bringing up the goods! Like an Ashlee Simpson banger but with a fuller tone with a soupcon of Nothing Else I Can Say (Eh Eh)!

Broken Arrow - 6.1 - I don’t think this suits her at all but the production is pretty good!

Coming Home (feat. Jason Derulo) - 7.2 - The CRINGE I let out at them saying their name at the start! Dddd This is pleasant enough but I don’t think it is a keeper in the scheme of great collabs!

Doing Fine (Without You) - 8.9 - This modern disco-tinged bop was a bit of a serve!

Can't Make This Over - 8.7 - This is a quality little mid tempo ballad!

Catching Snowflakes - 9.5 - Impressed by this! A silly metaphor but so well constructed around that!

YOUNG FOOLISH HAPPY

Come Get It Now - 4.4 - That hook is super annoying I am afraid!

All About Tonight - 10 - This was immense from the first second! I cannot withhold a perfect score!

What Do You Take Me For? - 9.6 - A big bop but the vocal affectations are grating in places, preventing a full score.

Nobody Does It Better - 8.3 - I enjoy the elements of Retro meets modern but some of the production choices are grating!

Kiss the Stars - 10 - Very strong tune, I understand the Kesha comparisons when I hear this!

Stevie on the Radio - 6.1 - This is starting to feel like an album where only the singles are standouts dddd Only truly comes alive when the saxophone plays!

Everybody Hurts Sometimes - 8.4 - The fact she sounds a little like Mutya in parts is inflating the score, though I will say she handles a ballad better than I had anticipated!

Love You to Death - 8.1 - I do like this but she is starting to wear thin tonality wise with so many of these overblown ballads

Birthday - 9.4 - Inflated slightly for being a midtempo with “fun” the main ingredient!

Bright Lights (Good Life) Part II ft. Tinchy Stryder - 7.7 - Nice enough melody but not a standout!

Perfect - 8.1 - Very pretty song while it lasts

We Just Go On - 7.2 - Nicely conveys sadness and heartbreak!

Till the Sun Comes Out - 8.2 - This really is one long ass album! This is a pretty cool bop though!

The Thing I Love - 7.9 - Very fun!

I Throw My Hands Up - 6.9 - Cacophonous but kinda fun!

Black as Rain - 4.1 - I think this is my least favourite of the songs here! Something about the annoying vocal affectation on the sharp instrumental is giving me a big berserk NO!

Paper Planes - 5.1 - A weak finish but a bit better than Black As Rain!

PIXIE LOTT

Nasty - 7.1 - Does not reach the height of her other boppy singles and kinda annoying in parts! Dddd

Lay Me Down - 9.2 - I enjoy parts of this song, though overall it is missing individuality! Upon reflection, that outro is excellent!

Break Up Song - 10 - This is shaping up to be her best ballad! Her taste in men and how obnoxious they seem is a 3/10 though! Dddd

Champion - 8.7 - A bop that stands out enough!

Kill a Man - 8.3 - I can kinda endorse this message! Dddd

Ain't Got You - 6.8 - A bit throwaway, she has better ballads!

Heart Cry - 9.8 - Reminds me of instrumentals from 60s Girl Band songs I enjoy, and the whistling is not on the annoying side - a big plus!

Ocean - 7.2 - Not completely into this but it isn't really bad either!

Raise Up - 7.1 - Nice but a bit nothingy in places

Bang - 7.8 - Very nice despite affectation in places

Leaving You - 8.6 - Partially reminds me of The Trouble With Love Is, a good thing!

Cry and Smile - 8.8 - The production is incredibly pretty and atmospheric!

(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher - 10 - I love this song and Pixie does a great job here!

Cry Baby - 10 - This is fantastic! Making me wish for an era of updated 60s Bubblegum Goodness from Pixie!

The Girl You Left Behind - 7.3 - A bit meh but mostly okay!

PLATINUM PIXIE - HITS

I Got Love for Xmas - 9.2 - Very strong for a throwaway Xmas song!

EXTRAS

Live For The Moment - 9.6 - Despite the sound quality being a bit lacking here, I enjoy the beat. That instrumental sounds super familiar too!

Dream Boats and Miniskirts - 8.1 - Mostly cute little romper!

Won't Forget You - 7.9 - Very fun

Sunflower - 8.1 - Parts of this are incredibly pretty and are inflating my score slightly!

Fake - 6.8 - Sharp vocals ALERT!!!

Ooh La La - 9.3 - There is something lingering that really does well with the vibe here!

B-SIDES

Point of No Return - 8.5 - As I only have access to the Instrumental version on streaming, this score is solely for how pretty that is! :D

I only Wanna Be With You - 8.9 - This sounds really suits her!

COLLABS

Sufrirás (David Bisbal feat. Pixie Lott) - 10 - David’s voice is doing things to me so I could give this my 11 but this is the Pixie Lott Rate and she isn’t the main attraction, so I won't?

The One (Stan Walker ft. Pixie Lott) - 6.5 - Nice but Pixie is very much just a guest here!

We Own The Night (Selena Gomez feat. Pixie Lott) - 9.1 - This is a beautiful melody though I’d be lying if I didn’t say I had a slight preference for Selena here. Their voices surprisingly work together too!

Bright Lights (Tinchy Stryder feat. Pixie Lott) - 7.2 - Nice melody but both acts favouring vocal affectations in such an annoying way killed the chances of a higher score!

Wild Heart (The Vamps feat. Pixie Lott) - 7.5 - Very pretty melody!

Baby (with Anton Powers) - 7.7 - I enjoy most of this but the “baby” parts really start to veer on the annoying!

Stevie on the Radio - 6.1 - This is starting to feel like an album where only the singles are standouts dddd Only truly comes alive when the saxophone plays!
Till the Sun Comes Out - 8.2 - This really is one long ass album! This is a pretty cool bop though!
Well... yes!

Won't Forget You - 7.9 - Very fun
Baby (with Anton Powers) - 7.7 - I enjoy most of this but the “baby” parts really start to veer on the annoying!
EX CUZ ME

This was amazing.
Thanks so much @saviodxl.
From my point of view, the winner was clear.
The rest of my commentary:

Boys And Girls 11 This is the one with crossover appeal. It should have been pushed more everywhere, because I'm thinking it's her only song I will recognize. She's got 'Just Dance' video visuals still doing her Duffy thing but with a Ke$ha griminess. All of this for the Skins watching boys and girls.

Turn It Up 8.9 The "Turn it up, turn it up" refrain should have been a bigger moment in the song. It's too lowkey to get the listener motivated.

Come Get It Now 6.9 A promising different sound but this is definitely not good enough to be an opening track.

All About Tonight 10 I can see now that Pixie us a singles artist. She deserves better than that.

What Do You Take Me For? 9.6 This is what all of her music should have been so far.

Nobody Does It Better 7.8 I'm coming back to this for commentary after rating everything. The brand of Pixie's soul music on this record is more developed than her first album as you'd gather. However if those songs were developed to the level on this album, them by her album number 2 her whole sound could have evolved into sonething else. Something that blends 'Kiss The Stars' with her soul music. That would have made the collection of songs that is her second LP cohesive. because the result is completely not.

Perfect 8.6 Not perfect, but interesting amongst this album so I'll take it.

Nasty 8.8 Now she reminds me of Mollie and Cheryl. She is an amalgamation of European pop starlets. Also how has she never had a singing MOMENT like that before?

Lay Me Down 10 If only she could have been ahead of the trends and been doing trumpetty drum'n'bass light dance her whole gosh darn career. Way before Paloma Faith.
