Pixie Lott Discography Rate | We have a winner!

I did jot down some commentary for some Pixie as I was rating. As such, I made a note for 'What's Love Got To Do With It'... fully expecting to get some raised eyebrows:

9.2 - Look, I like what she did with this. I know her version is probably sacrilege to some, but this is a different & honest take on a classic. I’m gonna defend it… and I think it is her best cover here.

We've Got A Good Thing Going - 4. Not terrible but I've heard it all before and I'm not a fan of Shaggy.
I'd rather watch the video with the sound off.

You Win - 6.5. This has some nice elements, like the piano and strings, and the verses are alright, but the chorus lets it down for me.

What's Love Got To Do With It - 6.5. I hate acoustic versions of songs I love, even when they are recorded by the artist themselves, so this was never going to appeal to me. I gave it points for the song itself and Pixie's singing which is good.

Hello!

Is it me you're looking for?

Angel was included in Lionel Richie's last studio album Teskegee, from 2012, which is a re-recording of some of his previous hits with a different guest singing each of the songs with him.

Pixie got to collaborate with him on a version of his 2000's released single, Angel (#70 in the US and #18 in the UK).

Pixie performed the song with him during his UK leg of the tour to promote the album.

My commentary for these cuts:

You Win - 7.5 - This was nice but I forgot it as soon as it ended Ddddd

What's Love Got To Do With It - 8.6 - This is a LOT better than I expected! It’s something else when the vocal key and instrumental match, hey?

Angel (Lionel Richie feat. Pixie Lott) - 8.3 - I don’t hate Country Pop Balladry for Pixie!

Actually three overall high scores from me so I am a bit miffed they went before a few of my 4s dddd

honestly how is this a 9.2 in the full rate? Do you only score from 9.2 to 10? Use the full scale...

For me, this is the rough way I score. It's how I've scored songs since I was very young & my score basically equates to a U.S. school grade mark.

A: 9 -10 = A song that I really enjoy & would playlist (either if I made an artist specific playlist or some themed compilation.)
B: 8 - 8.9 = A song that I would probably not skip if listening to it on album, playlist, etc. (but I would probably not personally playlist it)
C: 7 - 7.9 = It's fine, but not something I would ever come back to & would likely skip if not rating.
D: 6 - 6.9 = Doesn't work for me at all, but not a complete failure of a song, I guess.
F: 5.9 & under - various degrees of complete failure. (To be fair, I seldom rank songs under a 3 & I am personally not a fan of zeros... but I understand many people use the whole scale, etc.)

OK, so we don't have a #71 because there's a tie at #70. Let's get rid of the first one.

Yeap, another cover.

Best Day Of My Life

Best Day Of My Life is an original song by American Authors, from 2013. They became pretty much a one hit wonder.

So, in 2016 Shell, the oil, gas and energy company, decided to make a project called #makethefuture, to promote change in some local communities where they have offices and/or platforms. Also stating that they are the future of the energy. Besides realocating resources to local communities, they invited artists that they believe were the future of music.

They invited, besides Pixie Lott, Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, Brazilian singer Luan Santana, China's pop-star Tan WeiWei and Nigerian idol Yemi Alade to record their versions of Best Day Of My Life. Each one of them has a solo version and there's a version with all them five (plus Steve Aoki). All the profit of the songs were destined to the communities.

What I like about this project is that it was responsible for Pixie's first and only visit to my homeland in 2016! Sponsored by fucking Shell, she had a pocket show in front of a favela in Rio, aired on a cable TV channel. I'm curious to learn how she knows so much about renewable energy tho.

Best part of the show is when they show the fans in the balcony of a house, singing along. How much they had to bribe the owner of that house to get that spot? ddddd.

Also, the same fans organised a bonfire party for her in the sands of Copacabana beach! She sang a few songs (three actually) and socialized with everyone there. I know at least 2 people in this video lol

Unfortunately all of this happened during the week and my boss at the time didn't understand my pop needs, so I couldn't go to Rio and be part of this :/

Sponsored by Shell.

Gawd that song is so basic, but I'll be damned if that melody hasn't wormed itself into my head in the past. It's used in some other adverts here in the U.S., (non-Pixie-fied, of course). I much prefer hearing her voice on it.

Guess I'll just eliminate the other one at #70

Pixie Lott's rendition of the Breakfast At Tiffany’s classic was only one of many songs she was performing prior to the premiere at the adapation of the musical at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in June of 2016. Sis was doing everything she could to cash in that year, right?

FINALLY

Angel - 5. This is nice but middle of the road. There are other songs called Angel which are better.

Best Day Of My Life - 3. I hate this song. I gave it 3 points for the vocals.

Moon River - 8. I've never been a huge fan of this song but I prefer this version to Audrey Hepburn's (gasp!)
It also helps that I was working at the Theatre Royal Haymarket when Breakfast At Tiffany's was on and I have fond memories of it because it was a good show.

Commentary:

Best Day of My Life - 7.5 - As good as that other version of this song I know!

Moon River - 6.4 - I adore this song and even tried to send the Audrey Hepburn version to PJOPS once but Pixie’s voice is not a good fit. Maybe the instrumental should be in a different key or something, she sounds far too sharp!

LOL - I guess I was being generous on both counts!

How many covers can a woman have in her discography?

Well, after this elimination, just three more

Pixie's acoustic rendition to David Guetta and Kelly Rowland's 2009 hit was included as an album track in Turn It Up Louder. It is followed by Use Somebody, so basically two tracks you can skip at once! :)

And remember when Pixie covered I Need a Dollar and then The Saturdays just went there and did the same?
Well...

At least they kept the dance elements! Their version is quite cool!

But nothing like the original!

Commentary:

When Love Takes Over - 6.4 - I kinda enjoy this more than Use Somebody but I am sorry - neither really go up to a 6.5 dddd

Ha! I call shade!! This also seemed to get played by me prior to getting to Young Foolish Happy - so the score was more generous! Anything after that album probably suffered from how annoyed I was at how endless the experience was!

Use Somebody 4.8 Okay her situation gets worse. Not only does Pixie have a debut album with a sound that does not fit her age, now we have a shoe horned re-release full of pointless covers, some seamingly acoustic at that. I hate over-controlling music executives. They're so obviously conservative old white men. Just like we found out in @livefrommelbs' Reality Divas rate.

If I Changed 7.4 I know it needs better production but the album needed life in this mid-tempo.

When Love Takes Over 6.9 This is just making me imagine what Una would've sounded like if The Saturday's version was just her.

Did you know Pixie Lott was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing series 12 in 2014? She did quite well and got a few perfect scores from the judges! She finished 5th place. You'll see that the connections between her and The Saturdays are endless, as Frankie Sandford (aka one fifth of The Sats) also took part in this season and got 2nd place!

Pixie's partner in Strictly was professional dancer and eye candy Trent Whiddon.

But for this elimination she's all by herself.

It's a growing ballad produced by Toby Gad (Fergie, Beyoncé, etc.) and Ant Whiting (MIA, Lisa Mitchell, John Newman, etc.)

The male vocals in the track belong to, Marty James, who also co-wrote the track. He's more famous for his work as songwriter and producer tho, having is his catalogue tracks for Sean Kigston, Enrique Iglesias and Snoop Dogg.

With that, we reached the averages 6+, Young Foolish Happy takes the second hit and the self titled album remains untouched.
