Well I think Pixie has a killer voice, and is very good looking. I'd love to see and hear all of you, seriously. Because y'all must be really hot and fascinating if you think this girl is so unattractive and bland.

If the rule for being on an Internet forum was that you had to be prettier and more talented than whoever you're criticising, then none of us would be here. What a silly line of defence.

Also, I'll hold my judgement on her voice until she performs live, but from that vibrato ricocheting off every wall in existence, I'm not going to hold my breath.

You don't have to be good at something to critique others, you just have to be knowledgable about it. Not all movie critics can act etc etc so that's a bit of a ridiculous thing to say.

I for one have never criticised her looks except to say that her hair in the new video is hideous but that is a matter of styling. She herself is very good looking in the same way lots of popstars become after loads of styling to utilise their natural good looks. There would be a lot more good looking people out there if people received the amount of help Pixie, The Saturdays etc have received though. She has a good voice but she has a lot of bad habits and some of her material is bland. Do I need to be a popstar to say that? No.

I know you're right, I just live by my own set of standards. I used to talk loads of crap about the Saturdays vocals, but then I was in a boy band for a few months and realized it was harder than it looked. So i backed off.
And I just think there are so many vocalists in the game that are incredibly inferior to Pixie, not that she's the best, but it just seems like a real stretch to me to get on her about her singing and looks, unless you have incredibly high standards.

You don't need to be a popstar to have an opinion, but for people to care about it, possibly.

I'd also like to add that people could serve to realize the difference between opinion and fact. If you're to say you don't care for something, there is no disputing that. But when comments are stated as fact, be prepared to defend them.

I'm not saying that Pixie hasn't got a "killer voice" or that she isn't "good looking".

I'm saying that she isn't a popstar; being pretty and singing pleasantly are very small contributors to being a popstar (in my opinion, of course). I've said this before so excuse me for repeating it, but even as a pop music fanatic she could walk into my office right now and would have to tell me her name before I recognised her. It just amuses me a little that my memory is incapable of remembering her face. Maybe it's a marketing trick so she can be launched as a "new artist" with every single, or maybe it's so that they can just change her and keep the name if the original Pixie gets bored of the job...

I guess I see her as a niche type of popstar. Like there's usually one nice looking girl who can actually sing in the game but doesn't do the dance routine thing. Stacie Orrico, Avril Lavigne, Gabriella Cilmi (pre-10). Even Nelly Furtado. I like that Pixie's not the glamorous type. She reminds me a lot of the girl you know who sings well. Not everyone needs to be in crazy outfits that glow. But then I can see easily how if that's your thing, Pixie must be quite dull.

To be a good popstar you need good music!

About the vibrato: confidence may or may not affect it. Shy people can have good voices too. But people who are confident of their vocal ability tend to mess around with their voice because they have nothing to prove. To them, it's an endearing quirk (which they can get rid of at any time). To us, it's a grating bad habit. Her vibrato sounds bad and scratchy because she's not letting her voice flow. She thinks she's being clever but it's just annoying.

When you see footage of her singing at stage school, she had a beautiful voice.

ElectricPlatypus - it seems like she's trying, and failing to do that kind of pop. And with her first album, faux-60's was the in-thing at the time post-Duffy, so it kind of was pop. She's trying to be commercial, she doesn't feel niche at all.

Like I said I kind of see the point about her being watered down and not particularly interesting. I for one do enjoy her music, voice, and looks. I'm not head over heels or anything but I'll keep an ear open. "Here We Go Again" and "Turn It Up" are regulars on my playlists.

She's not "boring" as such, but when I saw her on a chat show she just smiled, it was hard to know what she thought or what she was like.

You'll be telling us next that the song is "better/no worse than all the crap in the charts". Who's up for a drinking game?

I think Pixie actually has a decent voice, but as has already been said, a decent voice is no good if you fail to use it for anything memorable or interesting.

This song is terrible - it strips away her sexy Britney/Winehouse hybrid persona that she wore exceedingly well and makes her a more annoying version of Katy Perry, which we can all agree, is really quite annoying if you actually measure it. I understand pop stars have to move with the times and trends, but a complete transformation wasn't needed.

Hate the song and would not be bothered in the slightest if it meant the end for Pixie Lott.

Never really liked her as a popstar. Seems nice and all but rather boring musically.

I agree with everything in your post. The song is dull but so were all her other singles. Radio seems to be playing it a lot though so it looks like it's going to be a hit.

He / Him / His
Whilst her videos have never exactly been big budget, they really have been getting gradually cheaper looking, haven't they? Broken Arrow had some incredibly cheap looking scenes within it (particularly the out door scenes and the party scene) but this just looks consistently low budget and amateur, throughout.

It baffles me how someone can produce a song like this and think it's good enough for a lead single. The worst thing about it is that it screams desperation.

And the lyric about grabbing someone if you are single or not tries to be cheeky but it's actually horrendous.

The idea that Pixie has a persona at all is difficult enough to swallow, let alone that it has anything to do with either of those two. Even on her dark days - and God knows she's had enough of them - Britney has never been as soulless and bereft of identity as Pixie. I wouldn't even know where to start with Amy.

Whilst I like the fact that she has worked with a panel of Natalie Imbruglia's ex producers, Pixie Lott is a forgettable singer. Her videos are so cheaply made.
Any news on her US release yet?
