bunda - Emilia, Luísa Sonza

@Oleander (8)
@soratami (4)
@berserkboi @melodrama (3)

Putting an emoji in a song title? (which won't show up on here ff) How quirky! These charts are just not complete without a bop in Spanish by a pop girl. Emilia is joined by a Brazilian singer Luísa Sonza for her latest single which is a fun with a hilarious music video. Not one of my faves by Emilia but still, like their butts, I grew to enjoying this song, the chorus is rather catchy. And here's a random fun fact for you: 'bunda' means 'fur coat' in Serbian.

Mega Circuit - Japanese Breakfast

@Phonetics Girl (10)
@Cutlery (6)
@Oleander (3)

I don't think Japanese Breakfast made it to the top 40 with their previous single but here they are now, nearly reaching top 20. @Phonetics Girl and @Cutlery totally saved this one with their last-minute votes. This is so pretty, it tickles my 00s indie pop affinities, such perfectly fitting vocals too. Hearing the line "sucked you off by the AC unit" in this song took me out ff, I did not expect that.

A little break and then we're getting to the top 10. Who do you think/hope will appear before then?

And Cassandra Jenkins was actually in PJSC a few rounds ago.
Ah right, I thought the name looked sort of familiar but not sure if we ever had her in these charts?

Completely unrelated but I wonder if Lizzo is going to chart, probably not nn
She didn't even get a single point oop

And I expected the Emilia/Luisa song to do a bit better. We still have three FL songs left to be revealed.

Not in songs I don't think, but we got her most recent album to chart in July last year!

My Light, My Destroyer - Cassandra Jenkins

The remaining eight songs I voted for dd. So hopefully one of the FL songs is Putita Boutique. Would be nice if Anitta's Romeo was another one, even if it just missed my ballot. But I'm expecting at least a couple of them to be K-Pop songs.

Oh so that's her! I really enjoyed the previews and have been meaning to check out the album in full (of course that hasn't happened yet), thanks for a reminder.

All three remaining FL songs are in different languages, so unfortunately at least one of the two you mentioned will miss it.

And looks like we're only down to one song featuring male vocals from what's left.

earthquake - JISOO

@boom bazooka joe @Million_Lights (6)
@GimmeWork (4)
@Aester (3)

JISOO becomes the third and final BLACKPINK member to get at least one song on the charts this month and it's her latest single which also becomes the highest charting Korean song of the month. This is actually quite "Padam Padam" coded, right? The chorus kept popping up to me from time to time after first hearing it so yeah, a very effective one for sure.

Too Much - Dove Cameron

@soratami (8)
@eccentricsimply (5)
@pop3blow2 (3)
@4Roses @Maki (2)
@savilizabeths (1)

The first song with 6 voters (something we won't see until the top 10), is by Dove Cameron who managed to get a hit in the actual charts but the PJ ones are more important of course so let's focus on that. I know enjoying some of her songs but this is huge and doesn't sound like anything else Dove did. It's her big pop girl serve with an excellently crafted song from start to finish. A slapper. I know for sure this would've troubled the top 5 if it was released by literally anyone who's more popular on this forum.

Pieces - Florrie

@BubblegumBoy (9)
@CorgiCorgiCorgi (7)
@pop3blow2 (6)
@soratami (1)

We're getting to the familiar names now it seems, now time for Florrie. Sorry but she's such a non-descript type of artist I'm mystified by her popularity on this forum. I don't even know what she's trying to do on this song either. Are we already here for a generic 2014 dance pop revival? I don't want any further reminders that we're well into the 2020s.

Red Light - Sophie and the Giants

@daninternational (9)
@Maki (8)
@Empty Shoebox (6)
@Untouchable Ace (1)

This one wasn't even looking at charting at all until the final stretch of voters gave it a very nice boost. Looks like Sophie and the Giants went to the Ava Max school of basic catchy bops (the similarity is uncanny) and mastered it so hard she blew most of Ava's songs out of the water. This was definitely one of my most played songs of February - so addictive and sounds immense, fantastic melodies and production throughout. If eligible in the contest, this has a PJSC smash written all over it (see also: the Dove Cameron song)

Alibi - SPELLLING

@Oleander (9)
@Cutlery (8)
@CorgiCorgiCorgi (6)
@Phonetics Girl (1)

SPELLLING got a surprise (at least to me) top 5 placement in January but has to settle for #16 this month with a new single from her upcoming album, which I'm sure we'll see on March charts. The intro/first verse here is excellent and I'm loving this accurate replication of the 90s alt rock sound, down to the slightly muddy production quality, but the chorus sorta lets it down. Still enjoyable of course.

Hm I'll have to save the next five for tomorrow morning, and then finally get to the top 10 in the evening.

There are at least three really big forum artists with new releases who have totally missed the charts. Can you guess which ones?

Sabrina and SZA with their deluxe edition singles (which didn't really get much of a push), and Perrie with her latest "gift for the fans" song. I could see Anitta's latest single not charting but I wouldn't really call her "really big in the forum".

Richardson (feat. Cassandra Jenkins) - Shura

@Diet Pop! (8)
@Petty Mayonnaise (6)
@klow (4)

Shura's new single features an artist I've never heard before so it could be a chart debut for them. This is really nice and pleasant but will I ever return to it? No.

Dddd not me totally forgetting about this one! Guess Perfume Genius got my preferential LGBT vote this month!
