Cosmic - Red Velvet
(10) @Slice of Life (7) @Empty Shoebox (3) @boom bazooka joe (2) @Oleander @Phonetics Girl

Stop, stop, I'm already dead. I should have given this more points, what was I thinking. We talked 10 year anniversary and SM shenanigans on the album post, so instead, let's just celebrate "Cosmic," the title track celebrating 10 years since debut. K-Pop has so much great music to offer, but the truth is, so much of the music feels interchangeable from group to group. Red Velvet, however, manage to often release music that really only sounds like them. Even though the girls themselves are not actively involved in the writing (right?), their songs never sound like songs that were written for anybody and just given to Red Velvet - they feel like they were written FOR Red Velvet. It's something in the chord progressions, the melody choices, the harmony - it's them in a way another group wouldn't do at all. "Cosmic" is twinkly and bright, yet totally ominous and foreboding. The music video follows that same vein (and is inspired by Midsommar.) In fact, Red Velvet have a long history of killing men in their music videos (valid) and my favorite genre of Red Velvet MV is still shots of them just staring into your soul. My girls never fail.

Any Way (feat. Maggie Rogers) - L’Impératrice
(10) @pop3blow2 @Trouble in Paradise (4) @berserkboi (1) @Maki

Maggie's career continues to baffle me dd. I just feel like she pops up in the most random of places? Anyway. I like this! She sounds gorgeous on this tune with L’Impératrice. Does anyone else sing on this? I don't feel like I'm hearing anyone but Maggie, but I could be wrong. And in a world marred by TikTok length songs, it's nice to hear a song take absolutely all the time it wants to soak in the groove. More 5+ minute songs please!

Como en un Drama Italiano - Belén Aguilera
(10) @Oleander (8) @Maki (4) @Trouble in Paradise (2) @daninternational (1) @soratami

I obviously know this is not the case, but everytime I see her name I think that like Belen is the Spanish version of Christina, since I guess in my mind Christina is the only person in the world with the last name Aguilera ffff. Anyway, when this started, I was quick to write it off as something that wasn't for me, but then that beat kicked in and it turned into a certified banger. I love a MOODY pop song, and despite not speaking the language, the title "Like an Italian drama" is so perfectly encapsulated in the production and vocal delivery that I feel like I know exactly what this song is about. Bawp!

ABCD - Nayeon
(9) @Diet Pop! @Empty Shoebox (8) @Slice of Life

There is something deeply early 2000s about this that just scratches a certain itch in me. Her Crazy in Love, yup up! Also, the iconic pussy grab in the video shook Korea to no end, and I love anything that spins people's heads.

Rockstar - Lisa
(10) @soratami (7) @GimmeWork (5)@Million_Lights @Slice of Life

And the top "K-Pop" release this month (if you can call a Thai solo artist singing entirely in English "K-Pop") is BLACKPINK's Lisa's "Rockstar." The positives; it's better than every other BLACKPINK solo song not called "Solo." The negatives; that really not saying much. The lyrics are very WTF, but I would be lying if I didn't say it popped a bitsy, and Lisa is an absolute star in the music video. (Duh)

Apple - Charli xcx
(10) @Diet Pop! (9) @happiestgirl (4) @Aester @GimmeWork (3) @Rogue

Sadly, Charli has to settle for only 2 songs making Top 10, as Apple narrowly misses it's placement. Honestly, I was surprised that this was one of the songs that was rallied around. It's great! I just didn't expect it to chart as high as it did. I truly thought this song was called Airport for a very long time.

Tears - Perrie
(10) @CorgiCorgiCorgi (9) @soratami (7) @saviodxl (3) @Million_Lights (2) @Remorque

Sigh. I really don't know what to make of Perrie's career. Now, let me be clear, I actually like both of her songs (Forget About Us more though...), but I just feel like her team has no idea what to do with her solo career. And it's a bummer. She really has one of those voices that you don't come across very often, so I wish the material matched her talent. On top that -- what an ugly video.

Okay, METTE! This is fun. I know nothing about her, but this song slays. And funny enough, only the top 3 received more individual votes than this, so clearly a lot of you liked this one!

I got distracted with other things when I went to start writing this write-up so I ended up listening to this song like 8x in a row. And you know what? I'mm not mad about it! I love the production to this. Super fun.

Sympathy is a Knife - Charli xcx
(10) @GimmeWork (9) @daninternational (7) @Petty Mayonaise @happiestgirl (5) @boom bazooka joe (1) @Rogue

Thank God for this song. As I mentioned, I wasn't completely blown away by the pre-release songs, so when I went to press play, I got through 360 and Club classics wishing and hoping that the next track would blow me away. And it did. Sympathy is a Knife is the Gone of this album. It's classic Charli and also feels like an instant classic. That chorus is HEAVENLY. God damn. This is the Charli I love.

And the highest charting FL track this month is Emilia's "La_Playlist.mpeg." It's a bop for sure, even if I wasn't entirely in need to listen more than once. Come through Argentina!

Reason Why (feat. Kim Petras & BC Kingdom) - SOPHIE
(10) @Up N Down (9) @CorgiCorgiCorgi (8) @Petty Mayonnaise (6) @Trouble in Paradise (4) @Rogue (2) @4Roses @happiestgirl

I'm sure that the announcement that we would be getting new music from Sophie posthumously was met with both excitement and sadness from longtime fans. This song doesn't actually do much for me (my own personal waning interest in Kim over the last few years being a pretty big factor) but I'm happy that this project has Sophie's family's blessing and support and I hope this can provide a comfort to those who love Sophie. She was a visionary.

All Yours - Normani
(10) @Dangerous Maknae @Remorque (9) @Petty Mayonnaise (8) @boom bazooka joe (7) @CorgiCorgiCorgi (6) @Aester @Slice of Life

At one point, when I gave early leader board tea, I mentioned that a non-single was currently sitting at the #1 spot. I was talking about "All Yours," the brilliant cut from Normani's album Dopamine. This is an instant R&B classic to these ears. The perfect blend of catcy ass melody, gorgeous vocals, slow jam vibes - it's perfect. I'm glad the audience understood the assignment and voted for this so well. Shame it couldn't have held the top spot, but when you see what's remaining -- well, you'll get it.

(10) @happiestgirl (9) @4Roses @saviodxl (8) @Remorque (7) @Dangerous Maknae (6) @klow @X/S (5) @GimmeWork (2) @Rogue (1) @daninternational

In third place, we have the single from Tove Lo and SG's collab album. And it makes sense. It's definitely the best song on the project. A true sweaty thumper of a song. I mentioned in the album write-up, but I would love to see them collab more on a full length project, because they definitely have great musical chemistry.

Please Please Please - Sabrina Carpenter

Despite having the top 2 songs in the country right now (it's kind of iconic the way she keeps dethroning herself), Sabrina has to settle for the silver with her newest hit "Please Please Please." Watching Sabrina's gargantuan rise this year has been fun to witness. I had never really paid her much mind except for hammering the song "In My Bed" back in the day. I kind of love how this song subverted expectations of what her post-Espresso single would be, and I love that everyone expected it to flop only for it to be as big a hit as Espresso. I LOVE this song. The Kacey/Dolly of it all through a Jackoff filter. Slay a bit!

The girl, so confusing version with lorde - Charli xcx & Lorde
(10) @daninternational @Dynamo @One of One (9) @klow (8) @Oleander (7) @soratami (6) @Gemini @GimmeWork (5) @pop3blow2 @Rogue (4) @Petty Mayonnaise (2) @Dangerous Maknae (1) @Trouble in Paradise

While it did not win by a landslide whatsoever, it is no surprise that me that two PJ darlings who paired up got the top spot here. On it's own, "Girl, so confusing" is a great song, but the Lorde inclusion turned it into an iconic moment in pop culture history. Lyrically, this is one of Charli's best tracks (even though Lorde kind of eats her up on on her own song with that POETRY), but it's the added gravitas of what this song did for these two artists that turns this into such an iconic moment.
