Cosmic - Red Velvet

Stop, stop, I'm already dead. I should have given this more points, what was I thinking. We talked 10 year anniversary and SM shenanigans on the album post, so instead, let's just celebrate "Cosmic," the title track celebrating 10 years since debut. K-Pop has so much great music to offer, but the truth is, so much of the music feels interchangeable from group to group. Red Velvet, however, manage to often release music that really only sounds like them. Even though the girls themselves are not actively involved in the writing (right?), their songs never sound like songs that were written for anybody and just given to Red Velvet - they feel like they were written FOR Red Velvet. It's something in the chord progressions, the melody choices, the harmony - it's them in a way another group wouldn't do at all. "Cosmic" is twinkly and bright, yet totally ominous and foreboding. The music video follows that same vein (and is inspired by Midsommar.) In fact, Red Velvet have a long history of killing men in their music videos (valid) and my favorite genre of Red Velvet MV is still shots of them just staring into your soul. My girls never fail.
