In pleasing news, a number of the albums that I expressed excitement about back in the February thread in this post have now been released, and they are just as good as I had hoped!

I want to lead off by recommending the phenomenal Here In The Pitch by Jessica Pratt. This enchanting record clocks in at under half an hour, so stream it once, stream it twice etc. Could variously be described as "music from a haunted ballroom", "one for fans of Beach House", "like a lost gem beamed in directly from 60s Los Angeles", or "@klow's favourite album of 2024 so far".

Yaya Bey has followed up her excellent Remember Your North Star with the arguably even more excellent Ten Fold. This is R&B with production that frequently swings into minimalist house territory.

Hana Vu's Romanticism is like a maximalist Mitski album - lots of layered vocals, huge choruses and wearing of hearts on sleeves.

Portishead lead singer Beth Gibbons' album Lives Outgrown is finally out and it's knotty and morose and thrilling, somewhere between her band's own Third, PJ Harvey, Tom Waits and Fiona Apple's Fetch The Bolt Cutters.

Final one for this post is Phoebe Go's debut full-length, Marmalade. I made a thread for this because I think it sounds like a lot of forum sad-girl favourites (which I mentioned therein); the songwriting is wonderful and production top-notch.

Songs I've enjoyed this month:

Cassandra Jenkins released the second song from her album (due in July) and it's very...desire I want to turn into delphinium blue:

Speaking of Caroline Polachek, "Starburned and Unkissed" is her shoegazy contribution to the soundtrack of I Saw The TV Glow:

Ravyn Lenae has two songs out - I like "Love Is Blind" best, but the other one "Love Me Not" is great too and feels of a piece with the Rachel Chinouriri album:

Arooj Aftab, a Best New Artist Grammy nominee in 2022, has her new album coming next month. Her latest single is "Whiskey" which reminds me of Sade:

Kaeto is a newish artist from Scotland who's supported acts like HAIM and CHVRCHES lead singer Lauren Mayberry. I liked earlier single "Don't Ask" a lot and I like this one even more:

First I want to spotlight my favourite Eurovision entry of this year (and pretty sure it marks the first time ever my fave entry is a male vocal-only song):

L'Imperatrice gave us another taster of their upcoming album, this time a song in English:

Baby Storme dropped another epic tune:

Miley did a really cool cover:

Not sure if I'll be voting for it yet but Shygirl's new alternative club bop is worthy of checking out:
