PJ Retro 58 - COVERS (ACE WINS!!) & VIRGINS (DEREK WINS!!)

Welcome to the 58th Installment of the Song Contest that celebrates the music of the 20th (or prior) Century!


The iconic French boys of Partenaire Particulier has lead to a Berserky Host for you all, and he hopes to deliver the goods!

You have used your vote wisely, and decided we will be sacrificing some virgins this go around for our Main Theme!​

Standing Rules that still apply this round, and are sure to result in a VETO:

- Song was originally released after December 31, 1999.
- Song was already entered in a previous round of any of the PJ song contests.

- Song peaked within the top 10 on the UK or US singles chart.
- Song is a cover of or contains a prominent sample of a UK or US top 10 hit OR was covered/prominently sampled in a song that was a UK or US top 10 hit.
- Act has over 25 pages of discussion on the forum.

Criteria that will also be taken in consideration for veto purposes.

- Song is from an album that peaked in the top 10 on the UK or US albums chart.
- Song is from a Platinum- or Gold-certified album in the UK or US.
- Song peaked between #11 and #20 on the UK or US singles chart.
- Song was a major hit in other big music markets (France, Germany, Japan, etc) and/or in multiple countries.
- Song is by an act who had major success in the UK or US

You also have to make sure your Act is a Virgin to the Retro Contest!
(Please check whether they have already appeared on this sheet with a quick Ctrl + F)​

Some exceptions I am happy to allow:

- If they have previously participated in our sister contests (PJSC, PJ00s, PJXtra), they can still appear this round.
- If an act has previously competed as a Main Artist, but you would like to feature something they wrote or produced (an example would be if Timbaland had been a Main Artist in a previous round, he could reappear as a producer/songwriter)
- I would prefer any related solo or group acts to an act that was entered in the previous round not to appear this round. (e.g. Gwen Stefani and No Doubt, in an alternate universe where either of them could actually pass the veto criteria.)

To keep things fun and allow us to relish in more classic music we don't typically get to highlight on the Forum -
we also have a side theme!

For the Side Contest, please submit one of your Favourite Covers of the 20th Century to compete Eurovision Style! ​

When selecting your cover, please be mindful of the following:

- Must have been released on or before December 31, 1999.
- It must be a cover, not a sample/mash-up
- A version of the song you submit must have been a hit, even if not the version you are putting forward!
- Foreign Language Covers are highly encouraged!

Once each song list is revealed, we put together a Eurovision-style ballot ranking the 10 songs that most deserve recognition with point values as follows:

1 point (your 10th favourite song goes here.)
You cannot vote for your own entry, you don’t know who submitted the other songs, and only those who have entered a song may submit a ballot. Contestants who enter a song but don’t vote have their points total halved as a consequence.
