PJ Retro 88: Endless Retro Vacation (Winner revealed!)

We're having a bit of a spreadsheet crisis so please pray for us at this difficult time.
This always happens near the end of the reveals, doesn't it?

So basically we had to reveal two ballots at once (@Filler and @Jeffo) - MCL got a huge boost and now the fight for the medals is really close. Oh and Models finally got more points.
Fingers crossed the rest works out..

Momoe Yamaguchi - Playback Part 2

Entry theme connection:
This song seems to have some travel, before seguing into road rage and a break up song. If I knew it then, I would have sung something like this during my unromantic Greek holiday with 'lovers'.

Side theme pick:
I'll choose Momoe's successor Akina's Sand Beige. It's not a song I choose to enter, since she has such a vast selection of songs to choose from, but I like how it's a song that seems to vibe with the Egyptian theming, and the sound helps a lot too.

12 Lisa - Trans Oural Express: 10
10 Nek - Laura Non C'é (Dance Remix): 10
8 Amii Stewart - Break These Chains: 9.8
7 Berlin - The Metro: 9.7
6 Matt Monro - On Days Like These: 9.7
5 Cranes - Paris & Rome: 9.7
4 Momoko Kikuchi - Adventure: 9.6
3 Caroline Henderson - Made in Europe: 9.5
2 JX - Close to Your Heart: 9.5
1 Musique - Summer Love: 9.4

Tight Fit - Secret Heart: 9.4
Monica Naranjo - Sólo se vive una vez: 9.3
Nina Hagen - Smack Jack: 9.2
Stephanie - Fleurs du mal: 9.2
Fiona - Living in a Boy's World: 9.2
Martha's Vineyard - Old Beach Road: 9.2
Rebeca - Duro de pelar: 9.2
Squeeze - This Summer: 9.2
Models - Barbados: 9.2
Chattanooga - Hallå hela pressen: 9.1
Single Gun Theory - From a Million Miles: 9
Alyssa Milano - Somewhere in Jamaica: 9
Sandy Marton - Exotic and Erotic: 9
Lutricia McNeal - Fly Away: 9
Echo & the Bunnymen - Get in the Car: 8.9
MCL (Micro Chip League) - New York: 8.9
Sarah - Tokyo Town: 8.8
Gigi on the Beach - Summer in the Street: 8.7

One ballot left and any of the top 4 can still win.

Poor Rebeca left to burn on that beach. Deffo well done to Jeffo, our hosts Up N Down n' Maki, and to the fan of the tans that voted for Duro De Pelar - a repetitive 90s dance thumper is a lifestyle.

I thought this would be an arm wrestle between Lutricia and JX. Major surprise to see Echo do so well - a superb choice.

Oh my gawd... my second medal in the last 3 Retros.... after never having one in years of competing!

What Are You Going To Do With Your Life? was album I hammered at the start of millennium. Thanks to all these Bunnypeople for the points:

Grazie ai miei elettori!!

12 @soratami @Untouchable Ace
10 @TéléDex
8 @Up N Down
7 @Dynamo @Ezz
5 @WowWowWowWow
3 @invertedbutterfly @Doodvid @Jeffo
2 @iheartpoptarts
1 @Tiger Suit @Maki @If You Go

I sent the Dance Remix of Laura as that was my favourite version growing up, and of course also to promote the Remixes Rate courtesy @Ana Raquel & @Ezz

My tenuous (not really) connections to the theme were:

- Laura Non C'e has been localised and translated into multiple languages including Spanish, English and French, travelling into those charts
- I travelled from giving you the usual FL French to FL Italian
- The version I sent went on a journey from an original mix to a brand spanking new beat!
- Laura is not here because she took a holiday from her relationship with Nek
- The journey of her relationship with Nek was a break-up!
- Queen @Filippa ran the last Holiday Themed Retro, and this song was one of her picks for the Lost Classics Rate we ran together #NeverForgotten

Thank you to the beautiful co-hosting job with a very fun Result @Maki @Up N Down!

Congrats to @Jeffo and let me get a North American singer at the ready for your next gig <333

So, did everyone enjoy their endless retro vacation? I sure did, well at least until the spreadsheet decided to turn against us.

And now I get to do the thank you's this way:

12 @TéléDex (my saviour!)
5 @Dynamo
4 @WoW73 @WowWowWowWow @iheartpoptarts
3 @klow @berserkboi
2 @soratami @Phonetics Girl @Attis @chanex
HM @Untouchable Ace

Despite not having a medal in mind with this entry at all, I expected Lisa would do at least a bit better but I should probably be glad a total flop was avoided. Things were really looking especially bleak at one point and then that amazing 12 coming last-minute was a sigh of relief. I forgot how frustrating it is seeing your entry flop in real-time ff

When first hearing the entries, I thought this was going to be a battle between Sarah and Berlin for the win, so to see the former nearly miss out on the top 10 is a bit surprising.
But Echo & the Bunnymen doing so well is definitely the biggest surprise here, I literally thought they would be in contention for last place.

Underrated corner: Martha's Vineyard, JX (I thought this would be in the top 10), Caroline Henderson and Momoe Yamaguchi.

The winner is great and very deserving, and it's nice to see we have a few FL songs in the top 10 too.

A big thank you to my co-host @Up N Down for putting up with me and the leaderboard and spreadsheet shenanigans behind the scenes. This should probably serve as a reminder to not shuffle the ballots around if that's possible.
By the way, while doing these reveals, I was listening to my PJ Retro potential submissions playlist and I wondered how will I get to submit all of them dd. Onto the next round. Who's hosting?

Oh wow, I'm now a Retro triple crowner!
While I've had some Cranes songs in my shortlist for a while, I never submitted them because I always thought Alison's voice would put people off and pretty much went for 'Paris & Rome' because it fulfilled the brief, so thank you everyone for showing some love to my music box waltz entry

12: @DominoDancing, @pop3blow2
10: @Phonetics Girl, @Filler
8: @A&E, @Attis, @berserkboi
6: @klow
5: @TéléDex
4: @Maki, @soratami, @undisco_me
1: @KamikazeHeart
I think that's everybody.

Well, well... @Tiger Suit are you happy now?
What can I say? I am a bit of a witch after all!

A massive thank you to @Maki & @Up N Down for a great round and congrats to @Jeffo on a deserved win!

So this happened.

And it happened because I decided to sloth it up a bit for obvious reasons unlike in PJSC where I had everything prepared in advance. Should also probably consult master shuffler @WoW73 next time I try doing anything with this spreadsheet from hell. The fact that the visual formatting of the leaderboard turned out to be the least of our problems I have to laugh. And after all was said and done that's exactly what I did when @Maki was telling me how he was still finding absurd things wrong with the spreadsheet. Hysterically laughing at the screen while dying inside. I'm not sure which one of us it was that accidentally sat on the keyboard so that some entries either got deleted or appeared double.

On a more positive note I think little of this mess actually made it here but then there is no way I'm going back to check. I think hosting is still fun and I highly recommend it so thank you for inviting me to co-host @Maki and thank you everyone who participated.

Congrats @Jeffo on yet another win and also very well done silver medalists @Tiger Suit and @pop3blow2. I must say I was very surprised by MCL which was my 12 doing so well that I actually started to have hopes it could win. What a cool entry that was and in the end I think it was a blessing you had to replace your initial entry with this @chanex. It was also fun getting updates from your actual vacation throughout the voting period nn.

Thanks everyone who voted for Sarah! Sorry for being self-indulgent and putting her first on the playlist but I really thought it made for a great opener and since all the Youtube only songs went to the end it was symbolic to put @Maki's as last. Spit roasted by the hosts as @undisco_me eloquently put it.

Anyway, come get your prize @Jeffo, see you all in the next round and as for me the real vacation begins now.

It was a fabulous round, thank you to @Maki for hosting! I'm so overdue with going through the contests and thanking voters, will try and catch up this week. But yeah, the spreadsheet going awry is a rite of passage. I earn a living using Excel and still managed to create chaos!
