It’s about that time again. Thanks to the incredible Anggun and the votes of the PJOPS massive (and @Booers forgetting to vote), I now get to present my first ever rate – the PJOPS song contest! This time around we will be celebrating the power of 3s and 2s for PJOPS 32: I’m looking for songs that have either 3 or 2 lead vocalists. They could be one-off collaborations between two amazing vocalists; they could be songs by a band that has two or three lead vocalists in it; they could be collaborations between a solo singer and a band with one or two lead singers. What we’re celebrating here is the beauty of hearing three or two lead vocals coming together to create an amazing track that you want us all to hear. What is PJOPS? Spoiler: Click here to find out! Basically a competition of obscure songs from the ’90s, ’80s, ’70s, ’60s, ’50s, ’40s or earlier (if you can find a song from 1540 that fits the theme, go ahead and submit it!) If you have a song you’d like us all to hear, now’s the time to do it – everyone who submits a song will vote on the other songs submitted. Here’s a run-down of how it works: 1. PM your entry to me with a link to it on a platform that will allow us all to be able to listen to it (YouTube, Vimeo and Dailymotion are all good starting points). 2. Keep your fingers crossed that the veto panel doesn't reject your entry. If your song is vetoed, return to step 1 and try again. 3. Once the song list is posted, listen to all the songs and decide on your top 10 in order. Award points to these in a Eurovision-style fashion (i.e. 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 points, with 12 points going to your favourite song) and PM me your scores. You only need to send through the top 10. Anything that doesn’t make your top 10 will automatically get a zero. 4. Log in for the reveal and find out whether your song flops or smashes! What kind of songs can I send this time around? The usual PJOPS rules apply: Spoiler: Click here for the rules 1. The song must have been released before 01.01.2000. 2. The song must not be by a huge act that we discuss a lot on the forum (so no Madonna deep cuts, please – although you could get away with a Vanessa Williams deep cut) and it must not be a song that was well-known or a major hit (so please don’t submit the Macarena just because Los Del Rio doesn’t have its own thread). Click here for list of previous entries to give you an idea. In addition, entries must match this contest’s theme – duos and trios. 3. There need to be either two or three lead vocalists on your song. A rap section counts as a lead vocal. A person singing the lead on a verse or the hook counts as a lead vocal. I’m not really bothered about whether the vocalists are all separately credited, but if they’re not, please tell me who the vocalists are when you submit your entry (you don’t need to know their names – you can say “whoever does the uncredited rap section at 1:32” and that’s enough). 4. Background vocals do NOT count (even if the background vocalists are in the same band as the lead vocalist). I’m willing to be flexible on this (especially if the entire song is sung in harmony with no solos), but if you send me some Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger nonsense, I will treat it as a solo and I will not send it to the veto panel. So none of this, please: 5. The two or three vocalists can be within the same band or they can be artists who don't normally collaborate - either is fine. How long do I have? You have until the evening of Monday, June 5 to submit your entries. I’ll announce a date for the reveal closer to the time. How will I do? Who knows? Some voices come together to create magic: and some don’t. But if you don’t get your votes in by the deadline, the score for your song will be cut in half. So please remember to vote if you want to keep your song from flopping!
