PJOPS 37: Decade vs Decade! Winner revealed!

  1. “Popjustice Song contest is a music contest focused on discovering new music, each participant picks a song by a lesser known artist or new discovery and pits this song against other unknown or new songs.” —the PJSCHQ

Welcome to the 37th PJOPS Song Contest, where the esteemed members of Popjustice submit their favorite under appreciated oldies songs in a head-to-head battle to see who comes out the victor! Do you have a hidden gem of a pre-Y2K song you’d love to share with the forum? Then this is the contest for you!

    WHAT CAN I SUBMIT?

Any lesser-known song released on or before December 31st, 1999. If the song’s lesser-known but by a popular (or just Popjustice popular) artist, you might get vetoed. Songs that were top 20 hits in the UK or US will also probably get vetoed. Discogs and Wikipedia are good sources for release dates, and Wikipedia will usually list the song’s chart peak as well.

Your song will also be vetoed if it’s been entered in a contest before. Here’s a list of previous entries. If your song is by an artist who's been submitted several times before, it's at risk of being vetoed also!

Once you've decided what to submit, send me a PM with your artist, their song title, and a link where we can stream it - YouTube, Spotify, Vimeo, Dailymotion, etc.

    HOW DO I VOTE?

When everyone has sent me their songs and everybody's passed the veto panel, I'll post a link to everyone's songs. Once you've listened to all the music, PM me your ballot. We use the traditional Eurovision style points system (12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1). So your ballot should look like this:

    12. your favorite song
    10. your second-favorite song
    08. your third-favorite song
    07. your fourth-favorite song
    06. your fifth-favorite song
    05. your sixth-favorite song
    04. your seventh-favorite song
    03. your eighth-favorite song
    02. your ninth-favorite song
    01. your tenth-favorite song

Make sure you get your votes in by the deadline! Otherwise, your scores will be halved.

    BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE

Sadly, there can be only one winner. (Last month it was me!) But this month, you’re not only competing for the overall PJOPS crown, you’re competing to see who can get the top-scoring song from each decade! We’re going to celebrate the top-scoring submission from the 90s, the top-scoring submission from the 80s, etc. And yes, this includes songs that are the only entrants from their decade - so get those 1920s bops ready!

    CALENDAR

Since we have forum members from all around the globe, I’ll be using British Standard Time for all the deadlines. To see what time it is in BST right now, click here or here, or just google "BST time" or "BST current time".

Submissions are open from Friday, February 23rd to Friday, March 9th, 11:59 PM BST.

Voting will take place from March 10th to March 29th, 11:59 PM BST, and the result reveal will be March 30th or 31st! (Unless we need an extension for whatever reason.)

Before you tag me, I'm not joining this one – lack of time. Sorry! When I said I sort of accidentally entered PJ00s I meant it, I didn't intend to either, but I had a song ready and, uh, it kind of sent itself.

  11. @NuhdeensPassport we talked about this - now is your time to shine *wink*

EDIT: Sent a motherfucking monster of a track.
