- The list will not be exhaustive and you are free to add any more obscure songs on your personal list released up to that date (within the prior 6 months) or songs contemporaneously charting on international charts. If you do I would appreciate any links to evidence the release date or chart history to update the archive.

- You are free to use your own personal charts from the time (if you have them) or create an updated list for this chart.

- Please rank your songs from your favourite downwards. (eg #1 down to #40)

- Your #1 gets 100 points, #2 99 points etc

- The weekly PJOPS Retrochart is compiled from accumulated points each week.

- It would be fantastic if you could regularly contribute lists but understandably there may be weeks you can not. If someone fails to contribute towards a weekly chart their previous week’s choices will be frozen and contribute to the chart but the points will be halved. This is to prevent wild fluctuations in chart positions depending on contributions.

Blondie get a second week at number one with "Atomic" leaving Peter Gabriel as runner up for the second week. Fern Kinney is moving up at a rapid pace from 14 to 3 with "Together we're beautiful" and right behind her are The Police with their two year old single "So lonely"
Other risers in the top ten are Rainbow who climb from 11 to 7 with "All night long" and Donna Summer who gets a healthy climb from 18 to 10 with "On the radio"

Disco is not dead as the highest new entry this week comes from Liquid Gold and "Dance yourself dizzy" at number 18, whereas the biggest climber this week: 15 places from 39 to 24 are Talking Heads and "I Zimbra"

Oh! Oh! Are we allowed to chart "Funkytown" yet??

Wikipedia gives its release date as March 11, and it's not on Phoenix' 'New in the U.S' list either -- but it seems to be right there on Billboard's Disco Chart as #1 for this week...

You do not have to wait until something officially hits the UK or US charts no. I think a lot of the disco hits were probably big "in da club" before getting a mainstream release, can't see a problem with it entering the chart now.

I certainly think a song topping any of the genre or international charts is more than eligible to chart!

I was a bit surprised Don McLean's Crying had already been released in the Netherlands for example! It's another 2 months away in the UK and 1981 before it gets a US entry!

Finally some movement at the top, as "Funkytown" gets a sneak release for the disco charts -- and judging by the fact that it was my #1 single of 1980 for Eric's 80's countdown, I wouldn't be surprised if it soon soared past the DK's, who are lucky to complete two whole months at the top).

In other news, The Slits' "Typical Girls" makes way a week before its six-months-is-old-hat date for a remarkable new double A-side split entry shared with The Pop Group.

Same thing, come to think of it, for "Rapper's Delight", the world's first rap single, which is replaced a week early by what's probably the world's third rap single: Joe Bataan's "Rap-O Clap-O" (released in late '79 but didn't hit the dancefloors of Russronia until now).

No change in the top 3, but the big news is...the chart expands to a Top 40 as of this week. The 7 newcomers due for entry, plus the three to fall out of last week's Top 30, immediately created enough records to fill all the places. There's still no room for Bowie's Alabama Song because, well, it's far too weird for the 8yr-old me to have ever liked. The Vapors move swiftly into the Top 10, while fellow New-Wavers in the form of Martha & The Muffins make a splash as the high debutants.
