We are taking a trip down memory lane

The Rules

- This is a retrochart which commenced week ending 5 January 1980.

- This week is week ending 13 September 1980 and can include songs released up to 1 September 1980 only.

- Your deadline is MIDNIGHT Saturday 3 September.

- Post in the thread or start a new conversation with me with your top 10/20/100 songs of each week.

- Each week I will post a list of new entries and releases that are eligible to chart and links to international charts (click on the flag / icon for the hyperlink).

- The list will not be exhaustive and you are free to add any more obscure songs on your personal list released up to that date (within the prior 6 months) or songs contemporaneously charting on international charts. If you do I would appreciate any links to evidence the release date or chart history to update the archive.

- You are free to use your own personal charts from the time (if you have them) or create an updated list for this chart.

- Please rank your songs from your favourite downwards. (eg #1 down to #100)

- Your #1 gets 100 points, #2 gets 99 points etc

- The weekly PJOPS Retrochart is compiled from accumulated points each week.

- It would be fantastic if you could regularly contribute lists but understandably there may be weeks you can not. If someone fails to contribute towards a weekly chart their previous week’s choices will be frozen and contribute to the chart but the points will be halved. This is to prevent wild fluctuations in chart positions depending on contributions.

There were fears about how AC/DC's post-Bon Scott comeback would go in Headelande. Looks like they weren't justified, as the lead single to their next album roars straight in at #13! Elsewhere, Bob Marley notches a #7 debut and the promise of another huge hit with "Three Little Birds", Madness do the same with "Baggy Trousers" at #5, while Robert Palmer notches his first top 20. But the true story is… which single will dethrone David Bowie? The seasoned veterans in Queen with their biggest hit in Headelande since "Don't Stop Me Now", or the young bucks XTC with the lead single for Black Sea? We should see soon…

Gary Numan makes it two weeks at the top with “I die: you die” while his “hero” David Bowie is holding at number two with “Ashes to Ashes” but right behind them and still climbing are Kelly Marie at number three and Billy Joel at number four. Peter Gabriel makes a healthy climb of 11 places to number seven with “Biko” – more climbers into the top ten are The Beat and the Nick Straker Band.
Meanwhile, heading downwards are The Jam, The Clash and Abba
The longest runners are Joy Division at number 23 with “Love will tear us apart” and Change’s “A lover’s holiday” at number 44 – both have been on the HMV chart now for 11 weeks!
