Finally a song spends 4 weeks at the top and tonight the Police can celebrate again as they do the double with "Don't Stand So Close To Me" and "Zenyatta Mondatta" topping their respective charts. That's the good news for the band but sales slide on both fronts as the single loses 26% week on week to record a sale of 126,000 copies, over the course of its first month it has sales now totalling 637,000 which it means it bounds 14-6 on the YTD survey and must be odds on to move into the top 3 next week. The expected challenge from "D.I.S.C.O" never quite materialised as it holds at No 2 on a sale of 118,000, off exactly 25% on last week but the track has already sold 445,000 in the UK indicating the strength of its popularity, and special mention must go to Madness who complete a static top 3 on a sale of 93,000 which raises its total to 414,000 and makes the top 3 a powerful and particularly popular one at present.

Four new entries to the top 10 to catch up with, the first of which has to be one of the most unusual entries into the top 10 this year "Et les oiseaux chantaient (And The Birds Were Singing)" has rocketed 51-11-4 over the last three weeks, a track which basically is a collection of bird song over a relaxing tune by the Swiss group Sweet People. Could this instrumental become a surprise No 1 next week? It attracted 64,000 buyers this week- who would have thought....

A much more familiar name to the big 10 Status Quo record their 12th Top 10 hit today as "What You're Proposing" moves 27-5 (62,000) it's also the lead single from their 13th album "Just Supposin" which hits the shops this week so could spoil the party with regards to how high this will climb.

Barbra's back! Streisand's most recent album is helmed by the Bee Gees and is certainly producing results as "Guilty" climbs 12-2 on the album charts and lead single "Woman In Love" jumps 22-9 (45,000) to become her fourth top 10 hit on the trot!

Rockabilly also makes its presence felt this week with Matchbox finally scoring a top 10 hit with "When You Ask About Love" which moves 15-10 (42,000). The group formed 9 years ago but didn't score their first hit until 11 months ago when "Rockabilly Rebel" peaked at No 18.

Clearing up the other positions both Stevie Wonder (4-6, 59,000) and Diana Ross (5-8, 47,000) drop whilst Odyssey hold at No 7 whilst increasing sales marginally to 58,000.

Breaking in at #40 is the third top 40 hit in 1980 for Gary Numan, he went to #1 with Cars, #22 with Are Friends Electric, and now is back with "I Die: You Die"

While it entered the top 100 August 9, 1980 it has been a long journey for Joy Division, finally in it's 11th week it breaks into the top 40 up from #41 to #32 with "Love Will Tear Us Apart"
