The Rules

- This is a retrochart which commenced week ending 5 January 1980.

- This week is week ending 19 April 1980. Your deadline is MIDNIGHT Saturday 9 April.

- Post in the thread or start a new conversation with me with your top 10/20/100 songs of each week.

- Each week I will post a list of new entries and releases that are eligible to chart and links to international charts.

- The list will not be exhaustive and you are free to add any more obscure songs on your personal list released up to that date (within the prior 6 months) or songs contemporaneously charting on international charts. If you do I would appreciate any links to evidence the release date or chart history to update the archive.

- You are free to use your own personal charts from the time (if you have them) or create an updated list for this chart.

- Please rank your songs from your favourite downwards. (eg #1 down to #100)

- Your #1 gets 100 points, #2 gets 99 points etc

- The weekly PJOPS Retrochart is compiled from accumulated points each week.

- It would be fantastic if you could regularly contribute lists but understandably there may be weeks you can not. If someone fails to contribute towards a weekly chart their previous week’s choices will be frozen and contribute to the chart but the points will be halved. This is to prevent wild fluctuations in chart positions depending on contributions.

Before I reveal my Retrochart - some movers and shakers this week:

Number 40: This song has been taking off in the other regions and now in Cubster land as well. A young new band called "Graduate" and their single called "Elvis should play Ska" - these guys hail from Bath - and they look like they could be making a big splash with this single!

Congratulations to Blondie for their second number one single this year as "Call me" climbs from 6 to the top. Last week's top five all tumble as The Pretenders and UB40 race up behind Blondie at numbers 2 and 3 respectively - can Chrissie and the gang get their second number one single this year as well?
Madness have another hit on their hands with "Night boat to Cairo" climbing up from 12 to 5 and look at Dr Hook - who would have thought they would break into the top ten with their "Sexy eyes" but they sit pretty at number 8.
The highest new entry comes via "Eurovision" in name and show as Belgian group Telex are at number 10.
The rest of the top ten is made up of fallers - Detroit Spinners, The Jam, The Clash and Genesis all tumble this week.
Meanwhile, the highest climber of the week comes from The Police who jump from 38 to 22 with "Bring on the night" - a single that has been released everywhere around the world apart from the UK so far!

I thought you'd like it - you kinda beat me to it last week though. I knew that The Pretenders had to line up behind Blondie.
A lot of The Pretenders singles just sound so brilliant more than 30 years later:

"Talk of the town" is such a wonderful, dreamy single - their best is yet to come!
