The Rules

- This is a retrochart which commenced week ending 5 January 1980.

- This week is week ending 27 September 1980 and can include songs released up to 20 September 1980 only.

- Your deadline is MIDNIGHT Saturday 17 September.

- Post in the thread or start a new conversation with me with your top 10/20/100 songs of each week.

- Each week I will post a list of new entries and releases that are eligible to chart and links to international charts (click on the flag / icon for the hyperlink).

- The list will not be exhaustive and you are free to add any more obscure songs on your personal list released up to that date (within the prior 6 months) or songs contemporaneously charting on international charts. If you do I would appreciate any links to evidence the release date or chart history to update the archive.

- You are free to use your own personal charts from the time (if you have them) or create an updated list for this chart.

- Please rank your songs from your favourite downwards. (eg #1 down to #100)

- Your #1 gets 100 points, #2 gets 99 points etc

- The weekly PJOPS Retrochart is compiled from accumulated points each week.

- It would be fantastic if you could regularly contribute lists but understandably there may be weeks you can not. If someone fails to contribute towards a weekly chart their previous week’s choices will be frozen and contribute to the chart but the points will be halved. This is to prevent wild fluctuations in chart positions depending on contributions.

A complete shake up in the top ten this week as Kelly Marie gets knocked off the top spot for literally six!
The police come smashing in at number one with “Don’t stand so close to me” – their fifth top ten hit this year after:

The bed’s too big without you
They are the act that has spent the most weeks on the HMV Retrochart so far this year!

Queen go zooming up to number two with “Another one bites the dust” and right behind them jumping 15 places are Madness and “Baggy Trousers” – could they get their second number one this year - “My girl” was number one earlier in the year!
Change with a little help from Luther Vandross on vocals get their second top five hit as “Searching” climbs up from 16 to 4.
XTC also have a healthy climb of six places this week to number five with “Generals and Majors” – they plan on releasing a ton of singles from their new album “Black Sea”!
Other climbers inside the top ten are Split Enz and Stevie Wonder, whereas former number ones from David Bowie and Gary Numan head southwards and Billy Joel tumbles out of the top ten from 2 to 11
Joy Division’s “Love will tear us apart” remains the longest runner with 13 weeks in total on the HMV Retrochart.
