PJOPS Retrochart w/e 29/03/80 - DEADLINE MIDNIGHT SAT 19 March

graph-icon-white.png
The Rules

- This is a retrochart which commenced week ending 5 January 1980.

- This week is week ending 29 March 1980. Your deadline is MIDNIGHT Saturday 19 March.

- Post in the thread or start a new conversation with me with your top 10/20/100 songs of each week.

- Each week I will post a list of new entries and releases that are eligible to chart and links to international charts.

- The list will not be exhaustive and you are free to add any more obscure songs on your personal list released up to that date (within the prior 6 months) or songs contemporaneously charting on international charts. If you do I would appreciate any links to evidence the release date or chart history to update the archive.

- You are free to use your own personal charts from the time (if you have them) or create an updated list for this chart.

- Please rank your songs from your favourite downwards. (eg #1 down to #100)

- Your #1 gets 100 points, #2 gets 99 points etc

- The weekly PJOPS Retrochart is compiled from accumulated points each week.

- It would be fantastic if you could regularly contribute lists but understandably there may be weeks you can not. If someone fails to contribute towards a weekly chart their previous week’s choices will be frozen and contribute to the chart but the points will be halved. This is to prevent wild fluctuations in chart positions depending on contributions.

Another chart feating Blondie's "Atomic" - can it make it two weeks at number one?

My Retro chart will be submitted tomorrow evening!

I don't kno-ow-ww.... That chart was marked as Ironheade's, but it was posted by Phoenix and it did NOT feature Motörhead or Cheap Trick or Dead Kennedys -- something smells fishy here, haha...

Yeah, what can I say? I didn't really know what method to use, so I'll basically be using the UK singles chart for this, and picking stuff from it that I like. "Ace of Spades" should be rolling along later in 1980, so Motorhead will have their day...

Whaat? Are you saying you trust the UK chart more than your fellow PJ'ers' Retrochart Top 100 as presented above? Or you just don't care for "Bomber" (released in December '79) that much?
(Don't mind my language - I'm just always trying to create some chart drama to liven things up, hehe)

Yes. I may be changing my methodology a bit though, it'll probably take me a while to settle on something that works for me and makes something accurate.

(And my favourite Motorhead album is 1916. THHHPPPBBBRRRTTT!)

The Jam make it a second week at number but the Detroit Spinners are right on their tail as “Working my way back to you” climbs up from 7 to 2 this week. Also climbing inside the top are Liquid Gold, Genesis, The Lambrettas and Squeeze. Martha and the Muffins get stuck at number 8, whereas Fern Kinny’s “Together we’re beautiful” drops to number 4 after spending two weeks stuck at number 2. The Vapors go down one place to number 5 and Blondie’s “Atomic” goes down from 3 to 6. It has been confirmed that their next UK single will be “Call me” and gets it's UK release at the beginning of April!

Is there a link we can use for singles released that week?

I have posted some top 10s above and new entries for the charts. If you click on the flags it will link you to the source material. I'm afraid I don't have a comprehensive list of releases - partly why I'm hoping people will contribute to the retrochart is so I can build a list for each week!
