Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen, Cubs and bears! to PJOPS XVIII (that’s 18 for the non-versed in Latinos out there!)

Pye won the last PJOPS competition but handed over the baton to me, as I was the runner up.

This is my first PJ thread and what a way to start! There’s bound to be some boo-boo’s on the way – so please feel free to point them out and help a grandpa!

The theme for PJOPS XVIII is “Travel” – in the ideas thread I started off with “Songs that have a place/city/country in their title” but let’s broaden this with the whole concept of travel. Any song from the start of recorded music to 31st December 1999
Let's have some fun: be creative: as ever, let your imagination run riot when choosing a song!

As per usual, PM your pre-2000 submissions to me; the artist, track title, and a youtube etc link, they'll then be passed on to the only folks we're allowed to love this round - Eric Generic, Baby Clyde, phoenix123, and Kamikaze Heart - who'll decide if they're fit for purpose, and away we go.

Important Rules (stolen from prev. contest, who stole them from the one before, and so on...)

- Don't send very well known songs from very well know artists, don't play sneaky with me by trying to submit unknown songs from very well known artists, also not allowed* You'll get a PM back if or when you song has been vetoed, you’re then allowed to send another song as long as it’s before the deadline. If you’re not sure your song met the requirements, you can always send a back-up song along. I’ll post and update a pass/veto list in the first page throughout the submission time.

- When submission closes, we’ll get to voting, Eurovision style.

12 points (Your Favorite)
10 Points
8 Points
7 Points
6 Points
5 Points
4 Points
3 Points
2 Points
1 Point (Least Favorite)

You’re basically making a top ten from all the entries. DON’T VOTE FOR YOUR OWN SONG.

- Don’t reveal your song until I reveal them and don’t talk about your votes until the contest is over.

- We all know the drill, if you manage to win the whole damn contest, you’ll get to host the next one. If you can’t, or simply don't want to, you can always pass the baton on to the runner up and so on.

Schedule for now (I’m flexible with the dates but I will be on holiday myself from 21st to 28th March WITH access to PJ):

Submission: Sunday 22/02/15 >>> 15/03/2015
Songs list uploaded to thread >>> 17/03/2015 in the evening
Voting: 17/03/15 >>> Wednesday 01/04/2015 Midnight GMT

Reveal of who submitted which song>>> Thursday 02/04/2015 in the evening around 21.00 GMT
Results: Good Friday 03/04/2015 (19.00 GMT) – bring your passport with you and join me, as we’ll jump into my 80’s time machine and by the power of TOP 80’s travel songs (that obviously would be vetoed if entered in the competition!) we’ll stop off at a different destination to reveal your votes one by one. Hopefully without any boo-boo’s on scoring!

OK so take your mind on a “trip” and pick a tune!
Good luck to everyone!
The Cubster!

5. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

Love it. I'm tempted to send mine in already. But maybe I should actually take the time to think this through for once...

6. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

And here's me listening to Swing Out Sister as I opened the thread.

My first impulse ended up as my third choice behind two that could potentially get vetoed, but even if it's the one that gets through, I think I'll do well. Now watch me end up in second-to-last place again.

Wow! A couple of entries already - I'm impressed!

8. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

And I already have my presenter lined up... I was thinking of going with Carol Vorderman to follow up Anne Robinson, but this theme has given me a far better idea.

9. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

How cruelly snubbed they were in the first PJOPS!

10. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

Ooh, I have two songs that are in competition for representing me...

11. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

Best OPS title ever.

12. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

Yes! I'm so glad my rule set-up survived for at least two contests. I only stole the structure from someone else's contest, but this is all me.

Let's go for another five contests !!

I also love the idea so much, searching for a song right away!

13. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

Great theme.

Thanks Guys!

Here's a cover shot of my holiday album of last year: LaRoux's "Trouble in Paradise" which has some cracking tunes on it!

15. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

My submission is in. This has the potential to be one of the great rounds in OPS history.....

16. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

All you need.

It'd be vetoed, right?

17. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

Sadly, yes.

18. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

Loving this theme and I'm definitely game, but I have no idea yet what to submit.

19. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” (thank you Swing Out Sister for the “borrowed” title)

"Around the world the trip begins with a kiss"

Brillant single from an excellent album - If I recall it's the only album I know that has a credit for "Aliens from outer space that we haven't met yet"

20. Re: PJOPS XVIII – “It’s better to travel” - (Thank you SOS!) Now Open for Submissions!

Also bound for veto by The B-52s...Planet Claire...
