Welcome PJSC 118! This round's theme is Chemistry. And why Chemistry, you ask? Simple: because this is the 118th round, and 118 is the number of elements in the periodic table. And what does this theme entail? Nothing that will require dusting off any school books, don't worry:

    1) Pick both a chemical element (one of the 118 in the periodic table) and a classical element (water, earth, wind and fire) HERE. The purpose of these will be revealed in the reveals, so don't think too much about it and just pick whatever you feel like.

    2) Chemistry is sure to invoke school memories for most people, and since we just so happen to be on back to school season, the second part of this theme is: Share your funny/amusing/interesting school stories. Ever cause a disaster in the Chemistry lab? Put up an iconic Britney performance for the school festival? Made a teacher cry? Please share in the thread!

If you wish to enter a song, please use the form at the link at the end of this post.

Your song will then be judged by the veto panel. If it scores 3 "Yes" votes it will go through to the contest.

If you are vetoed, you will need to resubmit an entry. I'll PM you if this happens. Send your back up entry via the form, and then reply to my PM to let me know that you have done so.

To check if your song has been entered before, please use the PJSC Song List spreadsheet that you can access here.

[Things that will effect your veto score, but not necessary mean you are vetoed:

    - Previously submitted artist (3 being generally the upper limit unless significant time has passed)
    - Doing well in a previous round
    - Forum threads or discussions (generally under 10 pages is ok, but not in all cases)
    - Double submission of song
    - Multiple submission of artist
    - Reality TV contestant
    - Notable personalities (who aren't necessary singers)
    - Mentions by PJ on social media (but not on the website)
    - Features in PJSC song of the week or featured in spotify playlist
    - Blog presence (non PJ)
    - Large view counts on youtube (no exact science here, but upload time and international audience are taken into account)
    - Big artist in another country
    - Lesser hits / album tracks from well known K-Pop acts
    - People with features on hits
    - Covers of lesser known songs
    - Samples of lesser known songs
    - Artists that have had minor UK hits
    - Vocalists from featured producer songs (e.g. A*M*E from 100%)

Things that will cause you to be vetoed:

    - Winners of the PJSC
    - An artist that has been entered within 3 contests (Artist entered on contest 1 is banned from 2,3 & 4, becoming eligible during contest 5)
    - An artist that has been vetoed previously (Artist vetoed on contest 1 is banned from 2,3 & 4, becoming eligible during contest 5)
    - Songs that have already been entered
    - Songs from artists with large PJ thread (20+ will usually be vetoed, but not in all cases)
    - Songs that have entered the UK top 40
    - Songs from artists that have had significant UK hits
    - 3 or more submissions of that song
    - A song that is featured on the front page (in a solo article) in the last 3 months (another song by the artist or remix of the same song can be chosen and may clear veto)
    - Songs involved in the current Eurovision cycle up to and including the month of the contest (even if the contest is cancelled, original dates are respected)
    - Songs that have significant (non regional) radio play (check this via http://comparemyradio.com/)
    - Covers of well known songs
    - Samples of well known songs
    - Big hits / big singles from well known K-Pop acts
    - Major K-Pop acts (2NE1, f(x), SHINee, Girl's Generation)

After the song list is revealed you must submit your votes using the voting form (TBC), using the traditional Eurovision style points system (12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) with the top marks going to your favourite, and 1 going to your 10th favourite. You cannot vote for your own entry.

    ENTRY: 29/08 - 03/09 23:59 BST
    VOTING: 04/09 - 17/09 23:59 BST
    REVEALS: 18/09

  2. You can post now

  3. I just added a form for the element side theme to the opening post, which should be easier than having people PM me their choices. Don't forget to make your picks!

Trying to come up with a school story that's actually funny and isn't just a traumatic event that I've mentally retconned as something humorous

  6. Song submitted and elements chosen!
  7. I wonder if @soratami has got a long list of themes ready to go for every time he hosts.

  8. nn that might have been true at one point, but I've had the chance to host quite a few times over the last few years and I've pretty much done all themes I wanted to by this point (ok there's actually one I haven't done yet, but I think it'd be too much work for everyone involved). I was actually drawing a blank on what to do for this round and even briefly considered going th*m*l*ss, it was only only I remembered that 118 was the number of elements in the periodic table that I thought a Chemistry theme could be fun.
  9. 4 elements you say?

  10. I get Lead (pb) but don't get Holler...

  13. Okay so I guess we're sharing funny school time stories in the thread. Well this one always come to mind first for me and since it's been 16 years since I've graduated college, I can't remember too many other good ones. The college I ended up going to asked for this exact same kind of story on the application and they loved it.

One time my circle in friends in high school went to Mike's house to work on a project together and instead did the following.

    1) Went on the lake in his backyard which was frozen over and one of us nearly fell in.
    2) Somehow started chasing each other around with Mike's Dads' staple gun.
    3) Put lighter fluid in a Pepsi bottle and created a "fireball" that somehow got kicked across the drive yard onto my friend Tony's bare leg (he refused to wear long pants even in the dead of winter) and after some initial panicking realized he could jump in the snow to put it out.
    4) Started a wrestling match in the pitch dark in Mike's room and of course this led to his fish tank getting destroyed. Then to save the fishes, we put them into the bath tub and before we could clean everything up some of the water from the fish tank starting dripping down from the first floor ceiling, right as Mike's parents got home. This led to some uncomfortable moments while we waited for our ride as Mike was getting screamed at.
    5) At gym class the next day someone whispered if Tony shaved his legs (the "fireball" had burned off some of his leg hairs and since he is Italian with prominent black body hair, it was very visible) -- Tony overheard this and starting the next day and from that the day forward he wore long pants in the winter.
