    Hello friends.
Welcome to PJSC 96: Live From Melbs

    I'm your host, livefrommelbs.

You know how when a country wins Eurovision and one of their best and brightest cities plays host the year after? That's kinda what we're doing here. After nabbing my first PJSC win with Erika Vikman's 'Syntisten poyta', I've decided to use my hosting round to invite you all down south for a stay in Australia's capital of culture - marvellous Melbourne.

(Pack a coat, we're famous for having four seasons in one day.)

Often considered one of the world's most liveable cities, Melbourne is a grown-up playground of art, fashion, food, music and sport. Or, it was, until bloody COVID came along and stopped us in our tracks. Since then, poor old Melbourne and its residents have endured some of the strictest lockdowns in the world. We've been pretty much closed entirely since March. Our bars and cafes and restaurants were emptied. Our arts scene? DOA. Our clubs cleared out.

But now that we've seemingly gotten on top of COVID (for the second time) and are all set to emerge from lockdown like a beautiful, hipster butterfly, I thought it would be appropriate to put on my Tourism Victoria hat and force you all to celebrate what's great about Melbourne. And there is plenty. We're the city that's gifted the world the Minogues. Neighbours (and the stable of pop stars that rose to fame from the show). Kath and Kim. The Real Housewives of Melbourne. Other things that I will think of at a later time.

There's nothing extra you need to submit besides your usual song. But before that, a reminder of the rules:

Popjustice Song contest is a music contest focused on discovering new music, each participant picks a song by a lesser known artist or new discovery and pits this song against other unknown or new songs.

    Submission/Veto
The song you have chosen should be submitted by the provided google sheet.

Your song will then be judged by the veto panel, if it scores 3 Yes votes it will go through to the main contest.

If you are vetoed you will need to resubmit an entry, you must do this via google sheets and PM the host to let them know that you have sent another song.

Things that will effect your veto score, but not necessary veto

    - Previously submitted artist (3 being generally the upper limit unless significant time has passed)
    - Doing well in a previous round
    - Forum threads or discussions (generally under 10 pages is ok, but not in all cases)
    - Double submission of song
    - Multiple submission of artist
    - Reality TV contestant
    - Notable personalities (who aren't necessary singers)
    - Mentions by PJ on social media (but not on the website)
    - Features in PJSC song of the week or featured in spotify playlist
    - Blog precence (non PJ)
    - Large view counts on youtube (no exact science here, but upload time and international audience are taken into account)
    - Big artist in another country
    - Lesser hits / album tracks from well known K-Pop acts
    - People with features on hits
    - Covers of lesser known songs
    - Samples of lesser known songs
    - Artists that have had minor UK hits
    - Vocalists from featured producer songs (e.g. A*M*E from 100%)

Things that will be vetoed for

    - Winners of the PJSC
    - An artist that has been entered within 3 contests (Artist entered on contest 1 is banned from 2,3 & 4, becoming eligible during contest 5)
    - An artist that has been vetoed previously (Artist vetoed on contest 1 is banned from 2,3 & 4, becoming eligible during contest 5)
    - Songs that have already been entered
    - Songs from artists with large PJ thread (20+ will usually be vetoed, but not in all cases)
    - Songs that have entered the UK top 40
    - Songs from artists that have had significant UK hits
    - 3 or more submissions of that song
    - A song that is featured on the front page (in a solo article) in the last 3 months (another song by the artist or remix of the same song can be chosen and may clear veto)
    - Songs involved in the current eurovision cycle up to and including the month of the contest (even if the contest is cancelled, original dates are respected)
    - Songs that have significant (non regional) radio play (check this via http://comparemyradio.com/)
    - Covers of well known songs
    - Samples of well known songs
    - Big hits / big singles from well known K-Pop acts
    - Major K-Pop acts (2NE1, f(x), SHINee, Girl's Generation)

    Voting
After the song list is revealed you have period of time where you are able to submit your votes, you should vote using the traditional Eurovision style points system (12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) with the top marks going to your favorite, and 1 going to your 10th favorite, and remember you cannot vote for your own entry.

Here's your itinerary for your southern stay:

Submissions Close 11:59pm (GMT), November 3rd
(or 10:59am November 4th in Melbourne Time)

Voting Closes 11:59pm (GMT) on November 18th
(or 10:59am November 19th in Melbourne Time)

Reveals Begin 9:00am (GMT) on Friday, November 20
(or 8:00pm Friday 20th in Melbourne time)

    Submit your votes...

    HERE PLEASE.

This is a city where everyone's welcome - making it the perfect place to host a song contest as diverse as PJSC. Let this round be a little virtual holiday for you all as much as it is a celebration of the latest undiscovered pop brilliance.

    Enjoy your stay!
(Just don't tell anyone you think Sydney's better. You're wrong, and you'll be thrown into the Yarra river.)

  4. ICONIC!!!!

Watching Kath & Kim right now!

  5. Amazing!

Save me a chair at Naked For Satan or a bump at Poof Doof

  6. If a fellow veto member stole the song I tried to submit last round but had to wait... heads will roll.

  9. This round's gonna be messier than the Melbourne Cup Carnival, I can see it now.

  10. Reporting for duty from the south side. But I’ll jump back across for a slice of cake at Beatrix or to people-watch while pretending to read a novel on the steps at the Fitzroy pool. #justmelbournethings

Melbourne hasn’t exactly had a banner year, but I wouldn’t live anywhere else. The birthplace / home of camp icons like Cate Blanchett, the Minogues, Vanessa Amorosi, Tina Arena, Holly Valance...Gabriella Cilmi...and of course, a handful of people that spend too much time on this pink hellhole. The range!

  12. Hmmmm - the form isn’t opening for me right now, I guess I’ll try submitting in a few hours and hope my submission hasn’t been snatched by then!

  13. Oooh?! Is that something that can happen!? I can see other entries popping up...

  14. Let me try submitting on my desktop instead of my phone - maybe that will work!

    I love this already.

I would also have been here for an iconic round of PJSC: Live From Mel B’s.
