The jazzy Lepszy Model by Kasia Klich is responsible for my only PJ00s medal, coming in second in Round 49.



By contrast, Ta Douleur by Camille earned me 41st place, or the tiny crown, in Round 30. More like ma douleur am I right?



Another flop was Sækken I Katten by Danish R&B upstart Karen. To my ears this was a gigantic bop, but it only managed 29th place in Round 48.



Generally speaking, I've had a little more luck with the Poles; Kayah's frothy turn-of-the-century disco Testosteron placed 16th in Round 37 and Agnieszka Chylińska's synthpop epic Nie mogę Cię zapomnieć finished in 15th in Round 42.





And I've run out of room for Youtube embeds, but Amadou & Mariam's beautiful and unique Sabali (produced with Blur's Damon Albarn) was 26th in Round 31.

Starting at the very beginning of the decade with a non-brainer of a fave. As in my favourite non-English song of the 2000s. There's not much that hasn't already been said about Moi... Lolita. It's simply hook after hook from the first note to the last, relentlessly captivating my neurofunctions. Are we gonna see an Alizée song or two in the side picks? #soon

For some reason, I cannot boast much familiarity with music from 2001. Though much of it passed me by, the choice for my fave non-English song of the year is a solid one. Pardon me as I put on my real music hat for a sec here. The brute force of that guitar riff! Plus, Ms Nosowska lets her vocals shred in the chorus and I always appreciate when one does that. We love an introvert anthem with lyrics promoting consent!

~★~Nelly Furtado - Lo Bueno Siempre Tiene Un Final~★~



Wasting no more time, we jump to the back of the decade for a double feature. I make no secret of Nelly being one of my earliest faves and All Good Things (Come to an End) is very likely my 11 in any hypotetical rate. So it's no surprise that the Spanish language version of the song would become my #1 non-English fave of its release year. Not a hastily thrown-together calque, but a worthy companion to the original offering some new lovely instrumental flourishes.

~★~Nelly Furtado - Manos Al Aire~★~



Don't we miss it when Nelly Furtado had singles? Ah, in my little mainland European memory, Manos Al Aire felt like the last proper moment, the last big hit, the last hurrah for Nelly (or at least the last time I was paying attention ddd). And there was much to pay attention to. I love an old school walking-in-the middle-of-the-road-while-undressing music video and I love a singalong chorus in a language I don't speak. Lots of exposure certainly cemented my undying sentiment for Manos Al Aire. How about y'all? Will I see any side theme picks performed by the 00s' main pop girls?

I remember saying "Moi... Lolita" was overrated in that French rate years ago, I scored it with an 8.5 - then again, I was pretty stingy there. I still think Alizée definitely has better songs.
