In honour of PJX16’s winning song being called Diva, and the artist who inspired my username, visuals for the main round will be provided by Dana International.

REFRESHER OF THE RULES

LANGUAGE CRITERIA:

• Must be sung in any language other than English.
• Italian-language songs will not be allowed, due to @eatyourself ’s victory in the last round.
• Features less than approx 20% English lyrics.

NOTORIETY CRITERIA:

• Cannot have charted in the top 3 (anywhere in the world)
• No Eurovision Song Contest entries (non-qualifying national final songs are eligible).
• Performed by an artist with 30 pages or less of dedicated discussion on the PJ forum.
• Artist didn’t participate in most recent PJXtra, or win the past 5 contests.
• If a cover, will be subject to criteria including if original is already famous/successful.

PJ CONTESTS CRITERIA:

• Hasn’t previously been entered into either PJSC, PJ00s, PJ Retro or PJXtra.
• For PJXtra songlist, look here. For other contests, view at the hub.
• Released after the year 2000

Side theme: ASIAVISION

​

To celebrate hosting from my adopted homeland of Malaysia (give me that 10 year visa already grrr), I have been dreaming of a side theme which celebrates the Asian continent.

Each participant in PJXtra 17 will receive an Asian nation, chosen at random.

You can do with this assigned country what you like (or nothing at all), but the idea is for you to take some time to explore the music scene of this country, and identify a song to enter into our side round - ASIAVISION.

This song CAN be a top 3 hit, CAN be in English (though this isn’t encouraged ddd), and CAN be from a well-known singer etc.

The singer needs to come from that country (we’ll leave that open to interpretation but anything too tenuous will be vetoed).

PROVISIONAL SCHEDULE:

Voting: September 20th to October 2nd 23:59 GMT

Hmm... To lean into the theme and choose an Asian song or not?

 

I'm ready to bounce back from last round's flop

 

Sent a recent obsession of mine (shamelessly stolen from a contest in another forum!!!!!!).

The way PJ ended EBU for making Asiavision happen

 

We have 10 entries already... didn't realise how fast you all were!

 

Hm, Xtra usually runs from the beginning of a month until the beginning of the following month. Now the deadlines of 00s, Xtra and Retro are all relatively close to one another. Is that ok for all?

 

The Asiavision theme is very fun but then I recall it means we get a double round and I need to be a bit serious with that.

I don’t think La Reine Phonetique ever left her Xtra home - did she?

 

The Asiavision round is actually a nice way to fill a bit of the gap between Xtra rounds, since the voting happens after the main round's.

 

Fff I lost track, though that statement holds true for every contest.

I noticed that right after posting, so yeah, it's a great idea to have separate deadlines.

 

That's partly why I chose the dates for PJXtra 16 that I did.
I also like that PJXtra out of all the contests can have a longer voting time.
I think the deadline needs to be moved.

 

The deadlines aren't that close. PJXtra is the 17th, PJRetro the 20th and PJ00s the 23rd. It's not like they're one after the other, there's a one week gap between PJXtra and PJ00s.

 

The voting deadline is only 13 days.
I need over 2 weeks for any contest.

 

13 days is one day less than two weeks dd, and two week voting periods are pretty common. If the deadline was moved then the options would be to either have it even closer to the the Retro and/or PJ00s deadlines, or if it were to be after those two, having an extremely long voting period, neither of which seem ideal. I mean, I don't mind if the deadline is changed, I just don't think it's necessary/convenient, especially with the special round happening after the regular one.

 

We have entries flying in, I will tag past contestants soon, and set the veto panel to work today too!

I will move the submission deadline forward a little to guarantee your two weeks @Untouchable Ace but as others have pointed out I wanted to give enough room to breathe for Asiavision.

For me Xtra's voting period is always too long, and so while I briefly have the power I was looking to shorten it to a more preferable length. But yes I don't participate in Retro or PJ00s and I didn't consider their deadlines, saya minta maaf.

For all other forthcoming issues, I pre-emptively blame it on Najib, Malaysia's former PM who has just become the first ever former PM to be sent to jail. Or Rosmah, she's scarier.
