Pokémon

Technically they can still release something. MD remake was announced in January 2020 and released in March but it would be about time to reveal it if they intended to release a game in, lets say, November.
Manifesting...

I do feel like by now it's too late to announce anything to still be released this year, especially with ZA supposedly coming in early 2025.

I'm confused by the TCG game now. Because it seems to be more about collecting and trading cards and looking at them than actually playing the card game? And the app store page says "Casual battles alone or with friends"... So like is it still online multiplayer?

Well the other TCG online game/app still exists, that's the main/competitive one. This one is more about just collecting the cards, but I guess it makes sense to let you battle with them too.

The way I used a spare phone and a 2nd account to complete the "Welcome Party" challenge in Pokemon Go, and then basically deleted the game as soon as that was done. I think I need a long break from staring at my phone the whole time I'm walking outside.

This new one is kinda trying to be a bit more like Marvel Snap style than the full TCG app. The full TCG app has matches that can go up to 30 mins if all things go a certain way, this one seems to be much more streamlined and quicker matches so far based on the cards I've been seeing.

I had a brief moment of playing the TCG app last year, but it got a bit "heavy" when every match devolved into a million search cards and people running gameplans that would involved 3+ minute turns as they activated every skill on their bench. This definitely seems like a gap for something I've wanted for the my phone time.

It's a pretty fun game system, and thankfully actually very straightforward and easy to learn. As the game's been running for so long, some abilities/cards/combos have just gotten pretty strong and very popular decks can make getting into the game pretty difficult because they can be overwhelming as you're learning. I'm interested to see this new slimmed down mobile version and see if it does create a pipeline for players to getting into the full game.

I randomly decided I was going to finish the Indigo Disk Pokédex this week, along with wrapping up the epilogue, and... I think I'm ready to call Scarlet and Violet and pretty major step in the right direction. Not perfect games, but overall a pretty massive experience with great highs and mechanics. The Blueberry Academy Terarium feels genuinely huge and is a scream to explore, all the streamlining they did to some mechanics was perfect, and battling is easier to access than ever. I would love to see elements of the DLC carry into Gen 10. In fact, outside of how it looks and runs, I think the experience of the game is maybe better than ever. Hit us with the biggest ever game for the 30th anniversary in 2026.

I'm replaying Pokemon X at the moment and it's really highlighting how much Scarlet & Violet did improve things. Paldea was super fun to explore, in a way that Kalos, Alola and Galar (outside of wild areas) never really were. There are so many half baked ideas in Gen 6 as well, like sky battles and whatever the hell Lysandre and Team Flare are trying to do. Scarlet & Violet had some decent story beats, not as much as I'd like but again, a step in the right direction. The journey down to Area Zero at the end has stuck with me more than anything in a Pokemon game since Gen 5. All Scarlet & Violet needed to be better was more time in the oven, a definite improvement but ultimately still reasonably frustrating games given the performance issues.

So yes, expand on Kalos next year in Legends Z-A and just give us a Pokemon game that feels complete for the 30th anniversary year.

I need to play some Pokemon game while waiting for the ZA news. Not sure what i want to play. Maybe just BDSP. Havent played it since release and despite its flaws i still enjoyed it.

So i've decided on a game and few days ago i've bought...Ultra Moon. I havent played Alola games in a long while and i own Ultra Sun but didnt want to delete my save file so i've bought UM and it came today. Playing on my old 3ds feels so weird after so many years with a Switch but its fun. I've picked Litten and im very excited to continue my journey.
