In the grand tradition of legendary divas passing on the baton to the next generation, this rate will give our adoring PJ audience exactly what they have been clamouring for. Two titans of the forum teaming up to bring joy to millions.

One brings class the other sex appeal.

One has credibility the other cool.

One, decades worth of pop knowledge and a curmudgeonly attitude whilst the other is a multilingual breath of fresh air.

One is an aging icon with a devoted following of homosexualists, the other is a fresh young talent (With a devoted following of homosexualists).

One has legs for days and is still rocking well past retirement age, the others star power overwhelms the forum.

Contrary to rumours there have been no behind the scenes catfights or diva tantrums. In fact they have nothing but the utmost respect for each other. There may even have been kissing!!!

But enough of this love fest and onto what really matters. Let the battle commence.

Having been around these parts since before some of you were even born I thought it was about time I actually hosted my very first rate. Assuming some kind of spreadsheet skills may come in handy I lured the lovely @berserkboi to lend a hand with the promise of intense discussion of Legendary Divas.

I feel this thread has something for everyone. The PJ Oldies can wallow in the golden glow of nostalgia whilst the PJ Kidsies can learn that pop music was not invented by Britney Spears (Or even Madonna).

This Legendary Divas rate is to celebrate the careers of some of the greatest female artists of all time. The pioneers that lead the way for the likes of Gaga, Katy and Ariana.

It took me a very long to decide exactly who was to be included but the general criteria are...

1 - They should have had a successful (Mostly) solo career that started before 1970.
2 - They have enjoyed hit records in at least 3 different decades.
3 - Their success should be international and not just confined to one country or region.

The idea is to honour longevity rather than just success. A star who's huge success is only confined to one decade or era doesn't qualify. The legendary divas in this rate were all able to sustain a career over multiple generations. Many are still selling out stadiums today after 50 or even 60 years in the business.

Being the pedant I am I've obsessed over the lineup and song selection for months. The songs chosen are supposed to give an overview of their entire careers. The list is not a comprehensive view of their greatest hits (In fact many of their greatest hits may be missing) but is supposed to highlight particular successes from each era. No two songs from the same album or year will be included, no consecutive singles are allowed and less famous songs from an entirely different period may take the place of more familiar recordings if they better illustrate a particular time.

DO NOT EXPECT RULES OF INCLUSION TO BE 100% CONSISTENT.

Every career is different and it's impossible to make every choice fit exactly within the confines of the rules.

I've thought long and hard over what's on the list. If you want to make suggestions feel free to do so but it's unlikely to change now unless you make a VERY persuasive case.

The rules:

- You should all be well versed in the voting rules by now but if not - score each song out of 10 and give one 11 only, and that to your prized winner; or the song you think may need your help to go all the way!

- Scoring-wise – I've never understood why anyone needs more than 0 -11 for scoring. That's 12 different scores that you're able to give out. But the general consensus seems to be that decimals are allowed so we'll go with that for now (I may change this) - I will accept all scores up to 10 including one decimal point behind them (ie I’ll take 9.5, 9.6, 9.7, 9.8 but not 9.25 or 9.75) . SCORES SHOULD BE SENT TO @berserkboi. Feel free to add me as well but if you want them counted I'm not your man.

- NO COMMENTARY. PLEASE, NO COMMENTARY. This is my first rate I don't know what I'm doing. I don't have the time to wade through all your witty comments and choose the best. Save them for the discussion after each elimination. Right them dawn as you go and save them until the right time if you like but don't send them to me.

- Troll votes will be discarded or asked to be altered so please don’t try it, especially as it takes away enjoyment from other participants.

- Voting closes sometime around midnight on August 5th GMT Time (Or whatever time @berserkboi wants them sent).

I love all the effort put into this, so please do take this with a grain of salt as it's very easy to go for nitpicking rather than appreciating the bigger picture. However, this question must be raised...

Where is Liza?!

By my criteria Liza doesn't qualify. She's a showbiz legend but has only had one short period of chart success in the late 80's and even that was mostly confined to the UK.
