I’m no Ally McBeal myself, but wasn’t there a whole thing about some prosecutors quitting because DA Bragg elected not to press charges after being sworn in? I assume one must have uncovered/discovered some very compelling things in the interim to go from “not seeing a case” to “let’s convene a grand jury”?

The Manhattan district attorney’s office confirmed that they have contacted Trump’s counsel “to coordinate his surrender to the Manhattan D.A.’s Office for arraignment on a Supreme Court indictment, which remains under seal.” That is rumored to be taking place on Tuesday. He would report to court, be fingerprinted, possibly have a mug shot taken.
The specific charge/s would not be revealed until the arraignment, but I think it is assumed that they are most likely related to falsifying business records (misdemeanor). On ABC they said it is normal to see a 6 month sentence per count—now there is reporting tonight suggesting that there are 34 counts. (Which could be ordered to be served consecutively, not concurrently, if found guilty.)
There is also the possibility of them arguing that the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels violates New York state campaign finance law, which is a felony charge and in the past has yielded prison sentences of up to 4 years to those found guilty.
Someone please correct any of my errors. I know it is only early stages of the process and who knows what will happen in the meantime, but I think demonstrating that the rule of law applies to everyone, even people who have a base of supporters who will get riled up about it, is a good thing.

EDIT: If 34 counts of falsifying business records is accurate, that would seem to indicate they are going way beyond just the Stormy Daniels payment.

The grand jury in Atlanta can still indict him for election interference for that dumbass call to the Secretary of State in the days after the election.
It’s almost like people shouldn’t jump to conclusions until more facts are out and shouldn't make sweeping overly simplified generalizations.

Also the NY case isn’t just about Stormy Daniels, he’s been indicted on over 30 counts related to business fraud.
A grand jury is not voting to indict a former president unless there is compelling evidence to suggest probable cause that a crime was committed.

I’m begging people to not make sweeping statements here. This is historic. Nixon wasn’t even indicted. Whatever the right media does to spin this, this is attempting to hold Trump accountable at least.

I'm finding it weird that people like Pence and DeSantis are saying it's an outrage to arrest a former president.

Like I know Republicans have no morals but the overarching conservative argument seems to be that former presidents are above the law. Which, regardless of your politics, should never be the case in a democracy or republic.

They say: “We’re the party of law and order! … except when it comes to our guy. And that minor, totally normal tourist visit to the Capitol.“

Uh oh the DC boner girls are here to police us
Girl @ me next time instead of the subtweeting. Just cause I live in DC doesn't mean I'm involved in politics????
I work in science at a university developing therapeutics for developing countries and doing HIV research.

Y'all have jumped down anyone's throat when they make uninformed posts about a whole host of topics whether it's been East Palestine, foreign policy, leftist politics etc, how is this any different? Like this just reads unnecessarily antagonistic and condescending for what was fairly innocuous post.

The post I was referencing read like a criticism about the Stormy Daniels case leading to charges while Trump's attempts to subvert the 2020 election haven't resulted in any charges....which just isn't true because there's literally several pending cases in Fulton County and in DC regarding 2020, January 6th, and Trump's handling of the classified documents at Mar A Lago.

I edited my post because uninformed was the wrong choice of words and a little harsh on my part, but making sweeping generalizations seems a little simplistic for a thread that has generally generated some nuanced and thought provoking discussion.

Literally. They’re the party of law and order until anyone they like is arrested. They’re the party of ‘pro life’ until a woman wants maternity leave or maternity health care to look after her child. And so on.

Marjorie Taylor Spacelasers is apparently going to New York on Tuesday to support her Orange Overlord. Is Congress in recess? I was going to say I’m sure her constituents really appreciate her taking the time to focus on the important issues, but in this case they probably actually do want her to be there.

There is a Forbes article which includes some photos of the people who were out “protesting“ the indictment and I … just don’t get it.

“God Bless Our Veterans” … over a picture of a man who called soldiers who died in combat losers and suckers? (And I don’t think hugging the American flag is necessarily approved in the flag code, but I’ll pick my battles.)
