PopJustice News Network (PJNN): U.S. Politics [Hell] Channel

I work for a news/media company here in New York City, and it was SICK to see how gleeful a couple of our execs were at Trump being elected, because it means the news cycle will continue, more page views, more ad revenue, more dollars in their pockets. We got a mass slack message thanking us for our hard work through the election cycle but capped off with talking about living through and breaking stories during this "exciting time". Exciting time.

Luckily, my co-workers were all in mourning as I was and we helped each other get through the day. That gave me some hope.

It also doesn't help that when I stepped outside to go to work this morning, it was the most climate change-y day ever with the high being 80 degrees (26 celsius). There is no heaven and hell, because we are quite literally living in hell right now.

The writing has been on the wall for so long, I sort of just fooled myself into a false sense of security. Every time Trump posted a video on Twitter to hundreds of millions of views, I made up excuses. "Oh Elon probably inflated the numbers with his algorithm. It's probably viewed more by people outside of the US who can't even vote." All the right wing podcasts funded and platformed by Spotify. Whenever I had a peek at a random white man's phone on a train they most likely were watching Joe Rogan reels. The Dems campaign truly underestimated the power and influence of the Joe Rogans of the world. Now it'll only be smooth sailing for Thiel and Musk from now on and Trump will inevitably reward them for their help. It's scary and evil and so so grim.

I think the left has some serious rethinking to do about how they approach the topic of men, and I worry people are too uncomfortable to do that. There's a strong thread of misandry running through leftist messaging that I feel like people ignore or prefer not to address. Speaking as someone who wholly supports feminism as an equality movement, I don't have to dig very deep to find very loud voices that even put me off. This whole thing where people see the male Gen Z population flocking toward alt-right voices, throw their hands up and say, "Damn they must all hate women!" as though that's the end of that discussion is clearly ineffective.
Then men on the left should really do something about this. Because men often murder women who voice opinions they don't like, and I'm not volunteering for that.

I know this is going to be unpopular, but this is part of the problem. The current electorate does not give a shit about us (liberal women, LGBTQ)

And we need to realize that, and start having a conversation about how we can cut into this very clear surge in men who will NEVER find common ground with us.

Our community is superhuman, but there aren't enough of us to win elections.

And we need to find a way to make sure we can, even if - at the absolute worst - it doesn't center our experiences.

I know many people will disagree, but I can't see a path forward until we... unfortunately...be ok with taking a backseat.

There is already a left-wing mirror response to this alt-right ecosystem, it's in Hasan Piker, DSA etc which function as left-wing communities for anomic lonely young men trying to find their way basically. But the problem is that there is a hard limit on how popular those things can be, simply because a much bigger number of that demographic finds the rightist thesis more appealing.

To answer your last point, this male revolt against feminism is rooted in hatred of women, of how they are "taking over" jobs, education, etc, and aren't subservient enough anymore. The extremist chans flooding with violent misogynists aren't a result of too many "the future is female" t shirts and "misandry" jokes on twitter, it's because the real movement of women's emancipation upsets and scares them. You will never satisfy this radicalized young male demographic unless you literally push women back into the kitchen. And you can't reason with them once they're radicalized, if you defend women in any way you are a cuck, white knight, whatever, it's a bottomless pit.

I agree with and understand a lot of that, and that does seem especially relevant for those who've been radicalized.

But I think there's a larger section of men who haven't really hitched themselves to the Andrew Tate wagon and yet are also fed up with some of the rhetoric coming from leftist spaces. They actively push men away, and I think it's more than a bit shortsighted to label these guys incels and write them off as lost causes. These are your middle of the road, average guys who see stuff like the man vs. bear debate and--whether we like it or not--glean from such things that leftists believe guys like them are the root of all problems. This is a messaging issue, something the left is notoriously bad at. We can either acknowledge that and find ways to address it, or continue this path of allowing right wing voices to capture an entire generation.

There's a near future in which only property-owning (white?) (parent?) males retain franchise. And we've seen how horny Elon is for reproduction. I fully agree @OceanBlue: the Handmaid's Tale shit used to be a big leap, now there's a nice bridge built to it just waiting for our new leaders to walk right into it.

I'm sorry but who has the time and energy to try to deprogram/educate them hoping they'll come to their senses and turn around. They made their own bed. Let them rot with the consequences. I truly believe they won't open their eyes until they get drafted into another senseless war and face the fragility of mortality.

First of all, I’m so sorry to all of the American PJ-ers that have to go through this.

Regarding the problem of right-wing propaganda taking over America, isn't it sadly a natural problem of the size of the country? Right-wing messaging and propaganda is a lot easier to digest, making it more scalable and the socialist states I can think of that were able to do it through more or less peaceful means have more manageable sizes. I'm not totally well versed on US Politics, but from what I've read, isn't it "easier" to make material changes on the federal level?

It should be the economy, finances, the working class, etc. Democrats need to hunker down and find messaging that works around that. We know that the working class includes liberal women, LGBTQ, et al, but running the platform on identity politics is no longer viable, as depressing as that is. To me, the numbers on abortion rights last night prove that. The public opinion is there but it doesn't directly translate to votes. Trump's wins in 2016 and yesterday are reflective of protecting "me and mine" being the top priority for a large number of the voting demographic, specifically as it relates to their cost of living. Obviously Trump's policies will be a disaster in that regard, but the rhetoric is enough.

No, it's shorter attention spans, a lack of critical thinking and people flocking to things that confirm what they already think instead of finding something to challenge their ideas. And it's only going to get worse in the hands it's in now.
