For the record, the number of my friends “following” the account just went from 27 to 50 in the time I wrote this message. But the account also lost 100k followers in that same time.
So I was following @potus @flotus and @vp the past few years, noticed today they handed over the accounts so I immediately unfollowed this afternoon. Not exaggerating, a couple hours later I had a potus post on my feed and was like wtf?? Went to the profile and it said I was following….looked at VP and flotus and was once again following those as well. It’s not a “lag”, that’s never happened before.

Tik Tok is also blocking certain searches now, including anything about Trump rigging the election and Elon doing the nazi salute. I want to leave all social media so badly but am fearful of feeling completely disconnected from what's going on in the world. I think Instagram in particular is undeletable for me, my entire social network would fall apart without it - I talk to so many acquaintances/casual friends on chat there, or send memes. I finally built up the strength to deactivate my Twitter after having had my account since 2007, and am on Threads just to scroll but I am trying to switch to Bluesky despite it being tumbleweeds in there...
Insanely dark times we're living in. I moved from Canada to the States a year and a half ago and I feel like I'm living in Bizarroworld because no one around me seems as concerned as I am about the state of things. Or they've just gotten so good at compartmentalizing, which is probably healthier than the doom spirals I've been finding myself in. This is so dystopian. I just sink into old music and tv shows to try and disassociate and feel like I'm in a good timeline again, but man. You know it's bad when HBO Girls reminds me of the good days ddd.
