Also, Elon's Nazi salute.....if something like that happened 10 years ago, I feel like it would be a MUCH bigger deal with consequences. It's so bleak how unsurprising this all is at this point.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any consequences for them in this current state.

Media is largely being controlled and intimidated. I saw a local news station use the terminology "strange arm gesture". Media sources are treading super carefully around this.

If you throw your arm around and make an arm gesture that looks like a Nazi salute, it’s probably just an arm gesture.

If you have a widely catalogued history of white supremacy and fascist views? ITS NOT JUST AN ARM GESTURE.

I will say though, the gesture itself is irrelevant. It’s a test. He’s seeing what he can get away with and how blindly people follow him. The fact there’s been minimal pushback to it is what’s more horrifying.

You can already tell how much more prepared they were to win / govern this time than in 2016. Deeply, deeply fucked.

Best we can hope for is that a lot of this will read as over-reach to normies, low propensity voters who now lean Republican don’t vote in 2026, and somehow a miracle happens and the Democratic party actually does completely overhauls itself somehow dd

I don't think there was a lag,
I unfollowed the VP account and then checked later and it showed me as still following.
Then I unfollowed again, and checked 2 hours later and I was following it again.
I then blocked the account.
There's a chance there's some behavioral thresholds in place that serve to be anti-spam or bot features, ie: if something like 1M accounts all attempt to unfollow or follow an account in a specific timeframe, IG may essentially block that action from being taken on that account and not let the requested change go through.

There's clearly been changes to algorithms on Instagram and TikTok in the same way Twitter has seen.

Yeah I'm gonna divert some of my deep, deep anxiety about everything into putting together a digital life that
1. minimizes my identifiability
2. makes me minimally dependent on tech oligarchs

Time to dust off my Linux knowledge (before free software is banned), renew my library card (until librarians become official enemies of the state), and kill as many subscriptions as I possibly can.

The one that I'm going to have the hardest time with is WhatsApp. Like, WhatsApp *is* the telecommunications infrastructure in Colombia, and I'm sure many other countries especially in Latin America. It is gonna take a lot to convince any of my loved ones down there to switch to... Signal? AIM? Fucking hell.

I also need to stop checking the news every hour. And maybe it's time I finally do the thing and switch to a dumb phone now that I'm not beholden to Teams for work 24/7.

When are we going to stop amplifying Twitter posts. Especially of Trump just saying any old garbage. Delete the app, I swear to god!

Seeing what’s happening on Reddit right now, with lots of subforums banning X embeds and receiving overall positive community feedback for that decision, I wonder if we could set something similar in motion here? I guess it’s difficult because we’re a pop music forum, and a lot of pop music gets announced on that platform, but maybe those who browse X could just work with screenshots instead?

Honestly, I just don’t want to click on X embeds anymore. Not only because I don’t have an account there anymore, but because I want to stay as far away as possible from that nazi-promoting platform.

From Latin America and same. It's pretty much impossible in this economy to stay without Whatsapp. Hell, even Instagram - a huge number of people use it to promote their services and leaving it would sadly affect a lot of freelancers and people prospecting clients.
