Upstate NY lawmaker introduces bill to make Trump’s birthday a federal holiday
An Upstate New York lawmaker is pushing to make President Donald Trump’s birthday a federal holiday.
U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-Cleveland, introduced a bill to make June 14 a new federal holiday that would be known as “Trump’s Birthday and Flag Day.” Trump was born June 14, 1946.
June 14 is already a holiday known as Flag Day, but it is not a federal holiday. Flag Day celebrates the anniversary of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official U.S. flag in 1777.
Tenney, a Republican who represents
New York’s 24th Congressional District in the House, compared Trump to President George Washington in her bid for the new federal holiday.
“No modern president has been more pivotal for our country than Donald J. Trump. As both our 45th and 47th President, he is the most consequential President in modern American history, leading our country at a time of great international and domestic turmoil,” Tenney
said. “From brokering the historic Abraham Accords to championing the largest tax relief package in American history, his impact on the nation is undeniable. Just as George Washington’s Birthday is codified as a federal holiday, this bill will add Trump’s Birthday to this list, recognizing him as the founder of America’s Golden Age.”
